Track your food intake, first. Use an app like MyFitnessPal. Then cut your carb and fat intake, and raise your protein intake. You need to maintain a calorie deficit, so you need to eat less energy that you burn. Easiest way to do that is to eat less, and do cardio and resistance training.
Atkins is BS. The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to change your lifestyle. If you want something sweet, use your willpower. We all have it, it's just a matter of exercising it. In the meantime, if you have a craving, get some sugarfree lollies, and have one. No more.

the protein only diet can be very efficient but it's hard to maintain. either way, whatever you decide, you have to drink a ridiculous amount of water. It helps flush out the toxins and fats from your body.
Eat less calories per day than you burn in a day. Do that consistently.

I dont know about protein supplements, but you just need to eat healthy, avoid junk food in general, not just sweets, if you go to a restaurant, order a salad I know it sounds kind of lame but they are actually very good! haha. Make sure you apply strength and weight exercises into your workout routines, I think that will help you to get better results :)
