I didn't *really* understand what a mammogram was all about until I was somewhere between 18 and 20 years old. Remember -- no mom, no close female relatives, nothing... I basically grew up in a world of boys.
Also, the women in our family (fairly distant relatives -- "distant" in terms of both geography and relation) haven't been afflicted by breast cancer, so, on top of the lack of close female relatives in general, there really would have been no reason for me to randomly hear about it.
I've never really been shy about physical exposure, and I also don't mind somewhat rough manipulation of my body parts if it's for a good and easily understandable reason. (:
I also have a higher-than-normal pain threshold, and I'm not really touch-sensitive anyway... so, all the warnings about how it would hurt turned out to be overstated (for me, anyway).
So, yeah, really not "intrusive" for me -- either in theory (before I ever had a mammogram) or in practice (once I actually had one).

I didn't even realise they'd been around that long.
I heard about them two years ago, I think only because the media must have decided people need to know they exist.
I never thought they were intrusive, a bit weird that your boobs need to be squashed to see if soemthing's wrong, yet they use an x-ray that never even touches your head to see your brain though.
What Girls Said
I had one in April... it was no big deal. I am glad I had it done.
