I don't know what kind of alcohol reaction this is?

If i drink a lot, the next day when I wake up my whole skin is red and itchy and lasts a week. Allergy medicine doesn't help either also. It's not an allergy because it doesn't happen immediately and i don't know if it's an intolerance. I've been to doctors but they haven't been able to tell me what it is. But they recommended I take antihistamines any time i drink to prevent the reaction so what could is be?

allergic reactions can be delayed especially if the reaction is due to how your body is processing the alcohol in the liver or kidney.

since it's delayed it suggests to me that it is something in the liver or kidneys processing the booze.

also what do you drink? do you get the same reaction no matter what type of alcohol you drink?

so is there anything that can be done about it or do i have kidney or a liver problem. my doctor suggested i take antihistamines before i drink and see. will that help?

it could. it's worth a shot. you have to be careful though because depending on the type of medication taking antihistamines and drinking booze can really create a big sedative effect

do you experience the reaction drinking any type of alcohol or just certain types?

I get something similar but it usually only lasts a day or two. So, i don't drink. I've always thought it was some type of allergic reaction. It happens no matter what i drink, wine, beer, liquor. But i can drink any non alchohol beverage just fine so it has to be the ethanol.

I don't know, i haven't bothered with it. I just don't drink, or i may have a glass of wine once in a while and that's it.

One of the guys below had a good point. Once the alchohol is processed some of the products of the processing are expelled through your skin, so you may be reacting to that.

It may be a substance in the drink other than alcohol too. Try pure wodka. If you don't have it, then its not the alcohol.

what do you drink and how often?

it depends. last time i drank was August but it was a glass of wine and no reaction. but those 2 times i had the reactions. the first i drank 1 and a half bottles of red wine. the second time i had 2 shots of vodka, 2 cosmopolitans and 2 or 3 mixer drinks of red bull and vodka

So you aren't used to drinking a lot. That, and women your age and my age shouldn't drink more that 1-2 glasses wine or beers, or 1 hard drink per week. Next time drink less and see if it still happens/

i've had whisky before and nothing happened and also had a glass or two of wine and was fine, maybe it was the dosage i think but is it an allergic reaction still if nothing happens with the drinks i mentioned?

I don't know if it's an allergic reaction. One cousin gets red below her neck every time she has even one drink, maybe half an hour later. But after a while it goes away

i read online that i'm actually allergic because i get Alcohol Flush Reaction after i drink. i have prescription antihistamine which is reccomened i take before i drink. thank you for your advice
