Why does it bother some people when a fat person is confident in their own skin?

It's the same reason people would have an issue with a skinny girl who openly says she likes being skinny; people believe supporting one body type is insulting another, and some people blatantly argue it's unhealthy.
Let's take the Eugenia Cooney situation for example: people are trying to have her removed because of the potential for extremely negative influence she could be having on young girls. Clearly, that girl's body is not the epitome of health. The argument for her supporters of course that if we ban her, we should ban overweight women who could be influencing young girls to become overweight.
The flaw in their logic though of course is that being overweight approximately can remove about 10 years from your life, and is far more easily managed than anorexia or bulimia which are actual disorders. Distinguishing someone who has BED or supports feederism (the actual counterpart to anorexia) can't be determined by being large alone.
All in all I think that it's fine as long as no one is trying to preach about gaining or losing an unhealthy amount of weight.
I am going to college to be a dietitian. I will in no way judge a fat person or tell them what they can and cannot wear because that is not right. They are human and I will treat them how I'd want someone to treat me, but with that being said, I will never support obesity. I understand there are people who can't control their weight as easily as others, but the majority of population in the US can and choose to stuff their faces all day with junk and sit on the couch and do nothing about it. I personally do not get offended when fat people show skin, but I do get offended when they start making posts about how 'real women have curves' featuring a fat girl. If weight weren't about the health issues tagged along, I'd have no problem with obese people, but being obese can kill you and cause problems with the body so I personaly myself do not support it. Hope that makes sense. My thoughts are kind of everywhere
I've never understood that either. I envy anyone who has confidence, whether they are beautiful or not. I have no confidence at all and I am extremely ugly. I wish that despite my ugliness I could be confident. However, I never have and probably never will be. I've been bullied so much about my looks that I just have none at all. The things is, overweight people have likely been bullied too, so it's amazing they have confidence. It means they don't care what people think. I wish I could be like that, but I care too much about what people think of me.
I think a lot of people look down on that because usually when you're obese you are unhealthy. So when you accept & love your obesity then that probably means you will continue to be unhealthy. & So people will look down on you being like that because they might care for you and your health. Or just look down on you because they know you're unhealthy and are judging you for it. Which is highly not okay.
It's great to love your body. But you definitely should always want to keep being a better version of yourself, no matter what.
There's nothing healthy about being fat, and there's nothing to glorify on decreasing your life span that way. I see people shaming smokers on daily basis, ok cool, but fat people should be shamed too then because they are also killing themselves.
If you want to be bottom-tier in the dating market, fine. But don't expect me to praise you for it, or to encourage it because I won't. I think you should do something about your obesity, at least for the sake of your family and the people that love you. If you don't care, and do nothing about it you are quite a cynical person. Good riddance to whoever this applies.
I have no opinion either way on how a person feels about themselves only how they influence other people - I give out loads about that Youtuber who obviously has anorexia (Eugenia Cooney) and promotes being skinny so I will give out about someone who promotes being unhealthily overweight just as much.

Been trying to figure it out myself. People like to use health issues to justify their reasoning, but I feel like everyone should be able love themselves no matter what. What they don't realize is that people that don't love themselves won't feel worth it enough to change.
Because it's just as unhealthy as being annorexic. Most people would be outraged if an annorexic girl posted tons of body positive stuff like morbidly obese women do. Look up Eugenia Cooney sometime. She's a YouTube star who's so extremely thin that a lot of people want her channel shut down.
It bothers us when they're trying to make that ok. It's not ok to be that fat. It kills you.
Telling these people to be happy with their body is basically telling them to be happy with the fact they'll die from a heart attack when they're 50. The last thing we need is kids thinking it's ok to be obese.
i think it might be thst people have a certain type so they reflect all of their opinions on people who are different than what they like, people who are into more skinny type of people want to see skinny people cuase they like it. so if they see bigger people they want them to change becuase its what they like to see.(thats what i think)
I think fat people have a right to be fat and feel whatever way they want to feel. However they should be aware that they will be judged by others. It comes with being visibly overweight and having large amounts of excess fat
Really, I was wondering the same thing. Why do we have to make fat women or, on the other side, skinny women feel bad for their body? It's admirable when a woman feels good about her body. If she doesn't consider she needs to change, then she wouldn't change.
Obesity is not something that should ever be normalized, encouraged or applauded and the people who understand this don't pander to the advocates of the "fat acceptance movement".
Obesity is NOT beautiful and we should never go along with anybody trying to delude people -- young people especially-- into believing that it is.
I wonder, do people support these ideas because they get a kick out of feeling like they're a good person? They need a reality check.
It's not about fat acceptance. I didn't mention that at all. I just don't feel the need to make someone feel bad about themselves just because they're fat. It's completely dumb. Why would someone be concerned about someone else who obviously doesn't have an issue? That says more about the critic than the other person in my opinion.
people just like to make others feel worse than they do
They don't like to see someone who is considered less conventionally attractive by society still being so confident and comfortable in their own, whilst they aren't.

That doesn't bother me, though I'm not usually seeking out that channel! lol! It does kind of bother me though when people "fit shame" attractive girls.
It's a thing. It happens, for instance, whenever a model of some sort has a baby and then works her ass off with a trainer to get back into mad-crazy shape "too fast" for some people. The controversy behind this ad also fits the bill I think, since it's tough to argue that the model in the photo is somehow less fit than your average commuter.

I think it's fine. if they are happy doing what they do why can't the rest of the world accept that and be happy for them too.
Because it promotes an unhealthy lifestyle. Being that overweight has the same risks as smoking cigarettes, most people don't encourage that anymore
Because people who hide behind a screen feel comfortable saying hateful things
Because some people are jealous of the fat person's positive attitude
It's not healthy. ... I would never encourage a person to be and/or stay fat, but if they really wanted to or didn't care then that's their prob.
How are they doing so well if they can't run a kilometer without getting their knees hurt?
not bothered at all by it
Because a lot of taxpayer money goes into cutting the bacon off their guts when they have the inevitable emergency operation.
Maybe in Britain, but in the US, gastric bypass and the lap band aren't easy to get funded. You usually have to pay for it yourself, even if you're on welfare or something. A lot of insurance companies won't pay for it, either. Plus someone who doesn't mind being fat probably won't be getting the surgeries you're talking about any time soon.
It doesn't bother me at all.
Because I feel like they re mentally delusional
