What to eat with braces?

I've gotten the huge list of what to avoid with braces (their rationalization being that lactic acid causes permanent white marks when the braces are removed), but I'm a huge soda drinker.

Most of my friends eat whatever they want, but is the whole white mark thing serious or just a rare case used to scare you? Is there anyone who has ever had these marks?

The orthodontist says those things, because he or she knows that kids don't always brush their teeth, and if you go a few days without brushing your teeth while drinking soda it can effect your teeth, those white marks are calcium build up, do to poor hygiene and not brushing. If you brush your teeth and go to not only see your orthodontist, but also a dentist, you should be fine.

When I had braces I had them when I was probably 20 or so, and I was told I could eat or drink whatever I wanted to as long as I took care of my teeth. I was told avoid things like chips and popcorn, but I still eat those.

I believe the correct term is pop, not soda.

Yes, it happens. Better safe then sorry. You'll just have to give up carbonated drinks.

You might lose some weight in doing so. You can still drink water, milk, iced tea, tea, lemonade and juice. Arizona green tea tastes 10x than Coke, and is healthier for you too.

I've been wearing braces for 2 years. I can't wait until my lisp goes away.

it depends on where you live. Some people call it coke, soda, or pop. Where I live they call it soda. Just like in the south they call bublars water fountains or fountains.

Mai cousin had braces and he drank plenty of soda he just drank it through a straw and sipped water afterward. Just moderate yourself and try to stick to that list as much as possible trust me its for your good. Sucks but it gets easier the longer you have them.

I don't remember not eating or drinking anything when I had mine, and I didn't get any stains. Just make sure to brush your teeth if you're going to eat or drink something that is bad for your teeth. If you drink soda a let it sit on your teeth all day then that's bad, or just try and use a straw.

i drank a buttload of soda when I had braces. trust me, you don't want to do what I did. soda is by far the worst. bad things happen. if I were you, I wouldn't blame the braces - better to have straight teeth and no soda then crooked/stained teeth and lots of soda. besides, soda makes you fat
