I’m curious how much water we each drink in reality. What about you?
How much water do you drink each day?
I’m curious how much water we each drink in reality. What about you?
I tend to drink a fair amount of water, but I also have days where I drink hardly any.
Most days, I drink around 64-80 ounces of water.
On days where I drink a lot, I can drink 128 ounces (one gallon) or more. Almost never more than 140 ounces. When I was wildland firefighting, I packed 5-6 quarts (1.5 gallons) and sometimes finished it all and needed more during a 16 hour shift.
On days where I drink very little water, I get by on perhaps 32 ounces or less. If I drink less than 32 ounces it is almost guaranteed I will feel some negative effects from it, such as tight or cramping muscles, dry head/headache, or pain in the kidney area/dehydration.
I carry an 800ml (28 fl oz) water bottle with me, and generally I'll refill that around 2-3 times a day. I also have a glass of water with each meal, and a number of other drinks throughout the day too, like tea and coffee. I never drink a huge amount at a time but little and often.
When I'm regularly hydrated and because I'm type 1 diabetic, thirst is a good barometer for me if my blood sugars are getting too high.
Learned something new with thirst and blood sugar. That’s great you are able to recognize that. Did you figure it out or did doctors tell you?
It was something I figured out from an relatively young age, whenever my sugars were high I drank more. It make sense really when I learnt about the endocrine system in med school, and its a symptom of uncontrolled diabetes in undiagnosed diabetics.
The mechanism behind it is the bodies need to get rid of the excess sugar from the bloodstream, and the easiest way to do it is through urine. So the body makes you thirsty so you drink and then pee more. Its amazing simple yet so comolex at the same time.
The amazing body and it's little tells. Makes me wonder how much we miss. Thanks for that.
Yes, please. Whenever you get the time. I will check it out.
I must have lent the book out to someone because I can't find it on my shelves, but I think this is the book.

Oh, nice. Really up my alley. Will check this out, thank you.

Well, "Dusty" you have really pushed a 'hot' button for me, on the health chart. This will probably sound 'gross' to many, but I am sure you understand the implications and consequences, of being 'dehydronated. My MD has always told me that my kidney function was 'off' in terms of my blood levels of Creatin, were too high, and I needed to drink more water to keep my kidneys clear.
This is a long lead up to answering your question, I know, but for others to understand the impact, of being dehydrated, it is important, I believe.
Along with the Creatin, problem, I had IBS, (irritable bowel syndrome) and it made me crazy. (alternating diarrhea and constipation) Mostly Chronic, and TERMINAL constipation.
I have a wonderful YOGA instructor, who has been my friend since I started YOGA and SHE had the same problem, only she said she had Constant constipation, and it was 'maddening' for her also.
I had to make some very basic and 'DRASTIC, changes, (for me, anyway)
I now, try to have at least 5-7 glasses of water every day, and have eliminated WINE, from my diet, as it does dehydrate you. This along with some changes in my daily diet, has seemingly eliminated (no pun intended) the long term, dehydration problem.
So, the short answer, after all of this, I TRY to stay hydrated with at least 5-7 glasses of water every day STARTING in the morning.
BTY, thanks for your question.
Just realized I haven't had any water in days.. I don't seem to get hungry or thirsty anymore. I usually only drink when I eat and I sometimes don't eat for days at a time.
All I've had was couple cups of coffee.. I should drink some water now, thanks for reminding me.
You are welcome. Take care of you.
I never calculated that quantity of water, but sure is that I drink regularly a glass of water, starting every morning when getting out of bed. Now and then I just drink some water after for instance having drunk some wine, beer or strong alcohol. I think it's kind of a good discipline to drink water on purpose regularly. Good for the body and good for the mind ;0)
Agreed. I start the day with a glass myself.
I drink for my weight range. It keeps my weight at a normal bmi
To calculate take your weight x 0.33
I weigh 55kgs × 0.33 = 1.82 litres
That's around 7 cups I never go over that it would make me feel bloated if I did. It really helps to drink for your weight range.
To be honest I don’t drink enough water during the day at work. But the problem being, is the factory I work in is not heated. So if I drink to much water I end up peeing like a racehorse. But when I’m at home I drink plenty throughout the day, but I can’t relate how many glasses I consume.
I have a 1.5 liter bottle at home when I'm at my desk and it's frustrating how often I have to go and fill it ^^ I drink 4-5 liters a day but it can easily be more when I stay up late on the computer. I don't try to drink a lot I just have the bottle there and I drink when I feel like it and it just gets empty. Sometimes I don't fill it right away but then I start feeling thirsty and it's not fun to play like that so I usually fill it pretty quickly.
About 2 Bottles a day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon then I Water-fast.
Once I drank so much water that I became overhydrated and went to the toilet like 50 Times a day 🤣. That was back then when I worked out 5-6 times a week (cardiovascular exercise)
I'd say around 3 liters on average right now in the winter. I have a liter-sized glass container I keep in the fridge and usually need to refill it about 2 times a day. I'm being lazy and just working around the house though. When I'm actively training in the summer, I can go through a whole lot more.
On Summers, I've even gone through 10 liters before (5 containers with 2 liters each). Like I have a neverending stomach for liquid. I think I might have unfortunately developed that tendency and ability from my heavy drinking days with alcohol and participating in beer-chugging contests. Mostly I just drink water these days though.
8-9 litres for sure cuz everytime my mom will shout from her room to my study table, "Did you drank water?"
lol Mothers are good like that.
four to six liters (in the summer) more or less, depends on how active I am with sports
Do you still play in winter?
yes, but we have very mild winters...
8°C temps are still soccer weather as we say... and same for 36°C during summers (as we mostly play at nights)
Wow. I barely drink anything compared to you.
@NathanDavis Same. Night games. Have to. It’s just too hot in the day.
@NobleFlight it's just part of a life-time habits... for example, right after sports games ended, I could easily drink 500 ml of water and 500ml orange juice, and that took about six seconds... lol
also, I had really bad habits with diet when I was early 20's which I had to change/quite... instead of going for snacks, carbs or Coca~Cola during the day... I would just drink water instead
and I'm from Texas as well, if you don't drink water during the summers you just die... lol
@dustybiker now I am really wondering... what's the hottest and also coldest temperatures you've experienced, lol
@NathanDavis I drink about 32 ounces per day. With sports, maybe 50. 2 liters is more than that, and you drink 4. I'm not sure I drink enough water now.
@NathanDavis Coldest would be Rhode Island, probably. That was winter of 80’ through 82’ (I think) Middletown RI. If there is record of that anywhere. We had cold in England before that, but not sure it was as cold as RI.
Hottest was 121F for a few min the summer before last. Not RI.
What about you?
@dustybiker 121 is quite insane...
most I've felt is about 46°C (114°F) and it lasted a few hours of the day, for a couple of days... Texas heatwaves can be cruel... lol
and the coldest was last year... when Texas froze and I went out to the backyard in my shorts when it was minus 10°C (14°F) didn't stay outside for long though
@NathanDavis That was cold for TX. I was fascinated with the animation on the news, it showed the blue dip down the middle of the country to TX during that freeze that made the news.
The 121F was a rare thing (taps on wood). It usually averages in mid 100-teens aug-sept. But we can get 100F in Jan or any other month here.
@dustybiker yes, and even more unusual for the South of Texas...
but the one thing I dread the most is humidity over 90% lol
@NathanDavis Yes. That is the worst.
I drink 40zo or more a day. I do work out and am active. it's important. Your entire body functions better the more water you drink. It helps your cells move in the most effect way possible and on on I won't bore you.
This is so very important

Interesting video. Thanks for sharing this.
Except in the hot months, I don't drink that much water. I get my hydration from other drinks though. Maybe sparkling sodas without sugar, and that kind of thing.
In the hot months, maybe 4 glasses of water plus the above mentioned.
I normally drink 12 - 15 glasses of water 💦
Between two quarts and three gallons, depends on toilet availability
I consider the same. 😎
Drink on👍
You too! 🙃
Thanks 👍😊
Approx. 2 liter in summer 3. I try to drink less at evening because I don't like to visit toilette at night
I aim for 110 ounces per day. I'm usually pretty good, but there are cold days that I slack off and I get 50-60 ounces.
Probably a half a gallon of water
which isn’t much but they’re so expensive nowadays $150 a gallon
Does that include travel expenses?
Well, they save you the gas going all the way to the mountain source.
I don‘t like city tap water either. We have a filter system.
I drink the recommended 2 liters/day. It's not difficult as that is just four 500 ml water bottles. One in the morning, one at lunch, one mid afternoon and one in the evening.
I drink like 3 glasses a day. But that's a day when I'm least active and when I don't eat dry things. I know it's little, but can't force myself to drink more.
Yes you can. You absolutely can drink more water. You’re not being asked to run a marathon or write a novel. All you have to do is pour a glass of water, open your mouth, and swallow.
Drinking water is hard. GTFO of here.
Easy @agagagagaga not everyone wants to drink 2-3 gallons. It’s great that you can.
As a separate thing it wouldn’t be good for myself as I’m on iron treatments. That kind of flush would be bad for my absorption.
Everyone should be drinking at least one gallon of water a day. I only drink so much because I exercise like a madman.
@Agagagagaga That makes sense, you would be thirsty.
