So one of the high school groups I joined which is Youth Club whatever it’s called is having an early hike at 6:30am or 7:00am. I was thinking about joining even though I’m the only one that isn’t fit but I’m not that bad. I asked the club president about it and he said bluntly that this hike is going to be 2 hours and I’m going to have to be able to keep up and no offense but I’m not in the best shape or fit and mostly fit people are going but I can still join if I want. Plus they’ve had someone held them back and they had to go all the way back because that person kept complaining about wanting to stop and lost breath so easily. He said I may wanna think about it. I’m 5’10” and about 257lbs but I’m not that bad. It kind of hurt my feelings that he said I’m not in the best shape but won’t discourage me from coming. I can keep up. Only six people are going and most are skinny and athletic. Yes I know you don’t have to be skinny to in shape or athletic but still. I’ve never been thin in my life. I’ve always been a fat/chubby kid. I’ve always envied slender and fit people. Why did I have to be tall and chubby?

If its a situation where the rest of the people will not be able to finish if one person can't make it, then maybe you shouldn't go. Wait for a group doing an easier hike, and spend some time exercising yourself if hiking is important to you.
But I want to go? I don’t think what he said to be was fair. I see mostly people that are slender and fit going?
Its nothing to do with appearance but with athletic ability. If the hike has some planned destination and that is too far for you, either they would have to leave you behind, or they would have to turn around and not get there.
When I've gone on group hikes, we try to make it clear how far we are going so people who are comfortable with that distance can go and those are aren't can go on another trip.
