I'm an overthinker by nature... lol
but I've always had a hyper-active mind, always lived with it, so I am very much used to it and how to deal with too
in my very specific case, I can overanalyze many things or pretty much anything, and very very quick, the problem is when my mind would get caught in a "cycle" this is, repetitive overthinking and analyzing the same thing from different angles or perspectives and once I focus on one, which I think is the best to go with I would still analyze it again a couple times to make sure it is the best one, lol
once I am 1001% sure... my mind can go "but wait... what if" and I could get stuck like that, this is the part of my brain that I had work on for many years as a kid, and early teen because it could obviously turn into a problem with many things, being undecided or just not acting on many things
it is something I am very familiar with and I've learned to control long time ago, and it won't longer get on my way...
it really is overthinking when it becomes a cycle in which you get stuck with and "paralyzes" you and take no action, and in turn this is what could bring you all kind of problems in your life, relationships, and your own personality as well... it can lead to stress and anxiety that we could take against us in frustration
and yes, there's therapy for these things

I think that thinking only becomes "overthinking" or "bad" in relation to a specific & defined goal. This is a guess, but, I believe that to avoid overthinking, we need to restructure our thoughts & actions in a way that is actually constructive for whatever we're trying to do. It has to be practical & tailored to what's best for us in that moment. I believe that becoming more physically at doing anything will cause us to have to consciously think less.
For instance, if I know how to fight, I don't have to stress about how to avoid getting beat up. And if we cannot become better at something, then to avoid overthinking in that way would still mean to place less importance on things that aren't relevant. To entertain the same analogy, if I don't know how to fight, instead of stressing so much about it, I could just carry around a self-defense weapon that would be more effective than throwing fists anyway. And then move on with my life.
I usually don't overthink things. I'm lucky that answers to things come to me right away. I don't think I have the capability of overthinking.
No.
I saw someone overthinking something out loud and the refrigerator repair man said to him "You're overthinking this". Bless his heart - he had ADHD and things were hard for him to figure out. But he tried so hard to help to get our refrigerator fixed.
Some people are overthinking. Some are not thinking at all... there is some balance in nature :D
As an overthinker, I can say it has nothing to do with venting because I vent in real-time :D
I just... analyze all possible and also not possible scenarios and try to create Plan X for every analyzed occasion... :D

Overthinking is a more common trait in highly intelligent people, however it's not a good trait, because it only really works against you and your ability to just jump into something and get your feet wet.

I still overthink after venting 😃.. but I actually think some people don't really overthink or just not as much.
Yes, it happened to me today. I tried really hard to distract myself and keep busy but I kept thinking the worst about something I am dealing with.
