I'm 30, 5'9" and 212 lbs. I was put on a medication a couple of years ago. Abilify, and fluaxitine (I really doubt that's how they are spelled) and I was told it could cause weight gain. I think I my weight was about 165 when I started taking it. Anyways, the past several times I've been to the doctor, they siad my blood pressure was high. I also went to my medication management appointment a few days ago. They take my blood pressure before I meet with my medication manager, and they told me my blood pressure was really high, and that I should have some blood work done. I'm afraid there is soemthing seriously wrong. Oh, I should mention that I drink a lot of coffee and energy drinks.
if you lose some weight, easier said than done, your blood pressure will probably go down, you may feel like or you should also exercise even if it is just walking will also help both.
Sometime being hypertensive is hereditary and then would need to be controlled with medication, however, dump the energy drinks, and the coffee and that will help out the situation a lot. And that is easier said than done.
Get a good nights sleep and exercise and that will get you through the day in a much healthier way.
High blood pressure over an extended period of time can cause more serious issues later in life, so ask your doctor what they recommend and follow it, keep a journal, you can get a good BP cuff/machine off of amazon for 30ish bucks, and do your best to control your weight and go far a walk a few times a week.
It can't hurt and you might feel better after a while.
Since you didn't say what your BP is that is hard to tell, but really anything over 130/135 systolic and above 85ish diastolic is high.
We see patients that are in the 150s systolic and higher with a diastolic pressure in the 100s, or higher.
They are a ticking time bomb waiting for something bad to happen. Heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and many other things, and yes they can happen at your age, and you are way too young to have that happen to you.
Do your best to get it under control.
Bye Bye energy drinks, and coffee.
Hello better diet, exercise and possibly medication.
If you get it under control with diet and exercise, they can possibly take you off of or reduce the medication (s).
All a plus.

Hi.

Abilify may cause weight gain.

Fluoxetine may cause hypertension.
Side effects of medications typically vary from person to person. The provider has determined that the benefits of the medications outweigh the potential side effects.
In any case, talk to your provider and determine if there are any different medications for your ailments. Also, you may want to determine if your eating habits have changed since you have been on the medications, and at least track your caloric intake for a few days to give then an idea of how many calories you are consuming.
I am 5'8 216lbs with hypertension and high cholesterol and I need to exercise as well, and need to take my advice that I am giving you. The only good exercise is the exercise you will actually do.
I would also recommend having the blood work done to see where your numbers are actually at.
Finally, none of these lifestyle changes are easy at first. They are difficult and require accountability, consistency, dedication, and discipline. Establishing a new routine more than likely will be needed, and remember focus on progress over perfection. This is something that I struggle with as well so you are not alone in that regard.
Caffine and energy drinks definitely raise blood pressure. If you read up on it. I don't know if people on G@G have the certifcations and Medical Education and training to really be able to adequately help your case. That's something you have to go to your doctor for. However, there ARE steps you can take to naturally lower your bp. Try eating less sodium for one thing. Have better meals meaning eat more leafy greens and vegetables in your diet. Get enough sleep and exercise they say. Keep active as much as you can. You're only 30 and you already have blood pressure issues. That's not good.
Nurse here. So Abilify and flouxetine can be associated with weight gain but neither are associated with high blood pressure. Ability is actually known to lower it.
High blood pressure is associated with obesity. At your age, it is concerning to have a high blood pressure. Could it be something else causing the high blood pressure, sure. But a lot of out has to do with your weight, and all the energy drinks and coffee you have.
Be honest with your doctor so they can get a clear picture of what's the cause. You're going to have to make some lifestyle changes soon as well.

Abilify and fluoxetine don't cause weight gain. Even if taken together. High blood pressure comes from energy drinks/coffee and every lb over your healthy weight.
Even if there is nothing serious now, it can change in a short time. You have to start to move regularly, do some sports, or take at least long walks daily. It's part of depression treatment. Set up a diet, cut off all sugars and coffee/energy drinks, and return to 165 lbs ASAP.Energy drinks are one of the worst things you can possibly put into your body. They do more liver damage than drinking beer. They will also cause high blood pressure. Caffeine in the coffee you consume will also raise your blood pressure temporarily.
I cannot legally provide medical advice but I can give some dietary and lifestyle advice. Change your diet. You can still have one or 2 cups of coffee a day but stop drinking energy drinks altogether. That shit is straight poison.
Your dinner plate should look like a mix of mostly plants meaning fresh fruit and vegetables (none of that frozen shit!), a little bit of lean meat (chicken breast, pork fillet, salmon etc) and a small amount of carbohydrates like rice or pasta (try to avoid deep fried potatoes). Others will tell you don’t have carbs at all but you actually need them. They help your body absorb the vitamins and nutrients from the other food. And the most important part: NOT TOO MUCH.
Follow that simple plan for 6 whole months and you will be right as rain. Chances are you will be able to stop the meds.
Energy drinks are bad for you, depending on how many you drink in a day. They could possibly be the reason for your high blood pressure. I wouldn't call 212 lb at 5/9 terribly overweight though. I would think you are no more than 25 lbs over. You probably should figure out a healthy diet and stick to it. Get rid of any sugar drinks, booze, and desserts. Get a little exercise every day, even if it is only a walk around the block. I was 190 lb at 5/7. I started taking walks. At first I could maybe do a walk around the block at first without getting tired out. Slowly I started upping that until I could walk more than a couple of miles. I slowly got down to 135 lbs. In the process my blood pressure returned to normal, my knees and back no longer hurt, and my mild diabetes went away. I'm sure you can do the same. You just have to want it bad enough. Best wishes to you.
high blood pressure is not good, and being overweight/obese is also not good. together, a horrible combo. you need to get on meds to control your high blood pressure now and also start losing weight
also, energy drinks are absolute trash. i swear they cause heart attacks. stop drinking those
You should probably start lowering your caffeine intake for sure.
Does going to the dr make you nervous? I always have high blood pressure when they take it as the first thing. They go wide eyed, I just tell them to take it again after we've chatted for a bit and I've calmed downCoronary artery disease is very possible by patients with overweight and high blood pressure over 180. If you got prescribed some medication you should take it regularly to reduce risk of heart stroke or inner bleeding caused due high blood pressure. Most obese patients take some kind of heart medication above age of 40 even most non obese patients either. Mostly Bisoprolol and Betaxolol sold under 10 thousands of different names.
Yes, unfortunately, that’s a problem. You’re still young and shouldn’t be on high blood pressure medication. If I were you, I’d slow up on the coffee and eliminate the energy drinks completely. Those energy drinks are horrible for your cardiovascular health. Also, make other changes to your diet and start exercising regularly. Either way, good luck with everything.
Being overweight can cause high blood pressure yes. But so can large amounts of caffeine. I'd say to cut back on the coffee and energy drinks. Stay away from any caffeine for a while and see how you feel then.
The best advice is seeking professional medical/psychiatry advices to have a better understanding after telling them what’s going on with the changes and medications. Hope you will be okay~
At the age of 30, it doesn't necessarily mean you're having some problem. But you might be suffering from “Anorexia“ which means you might have the fear of gaining weight which I guess, isn't good for your mental well-being. You should take note of it at the earliest or visit your doctor to control this.
There are many online tools which may be helpful in diagnosing this. To know whether you might be suffering from Anorexia, you may take this self-assessment test for free.
You're 50lbs overweight and you drink energy drinks and you wonder why you have high blood pressure? Sue your school system.
You need to exercise regularly. Even if you just take a brisk walk every other day for at least 30 minutes. Try couch 2 5k. Worked for me.
Also stop eating foods with added sugar, increase fresh veggies and whole grains. Cut back on white flour. There is something seriously wrong... you have high blood pressure. Did you think that shit is normal?
Listen to your doctors. They have probably already recommended a diet. You are going to have to put in the work. When you feel better you'll be proud of yourself.
If there's not something seriously wrong yet you're on the way for something tragic to happen. Take care of yourself before is too late.
I suggest you see a dietician. Your family doctor can refer you.
Bro you are obese and you need to treat it like the fuckibg emergency that it is. You need to start cutting back on carbs immediately!
What you eat means everything for your health. Medications don't fix problems, they cover symptoms.
Why are you drinking so many energy drinks? That's not normal.
Stop drinking coffee and energy drinks.
I don't know how people can like that crap.
