Why are people STILL wearing surgical masks, years after the "pandemic"?

Question

I work in a shop, and still, after all this time, occasionally someone will walk through the door wearing a surgical mask. It's almost always someone old, over 60. Haven't they heard that the "pandemic" ;) is over? Now it's Ukraine... oh no, wait, hang on. Now it's Gaza that's causing people to turn against each other in anger. I wonder what it will be next? An "alien invasion"?

I mean I get adults. My dad is 60. His diet is trash. Hotdogs 365 like 2 times a day and he lives on budget. He’s retired. He does his best, but both he and I know with his weakened immune system and his declining health, that if he did catch something like Covid or something else that he’d just die or be hospitalized until the next sickness he caught. It’s not a chance he’s willing to take and I’m glad too. I wish he’d just eat healthier.

Also I think Covid is still going around during the time of flu season. It’s just one of the other strains/ strands/ versions lol.

Like I think in 2022 or 23, someone said they had gotten it but they got better, but this was a reason why they had missed some gathering. I really forget who and how. Friend of a friend situation. I just was shocked at that time, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was still lingering or so.

If it’s gone “magically” or practically. I’d be shocked and happy too, though.

Because misinformation and flat out lies from the media and the governments of the world have driven some people to live in fear you have people that got the vaccine and triple boosted and they still covid again. I got hit hard by covid, was close to death did take a drug that helped and I think God spared me also but I did not get the vaccine or boosters and here I am healthy and did not get it again. When against doctor's orders cuz he said natural immunity is a myth and he wanted me to get vaccinated in the boosters I said I'll take my chances. And yes I consider him a quack doctor no longer see him

I didn't like the masks. Dumb idea. The whole thing was more about what our governments could make us do before we started to resist than "protection". That's obvious.

And I almost died of Covid. ICU, ventilator, CPR, the works.

I'm convinced it was as bad as it was because we had the lockdowns.

I don't believe the propaganda about the vaccines simply because they tried to convince me that the immunity I developed from surviving the infection was less effective than what the vaccine would give.

So I told them to fuck off.

Same reason people were wearing masks years before the pandemic: its a good way to prevent spreading germs. Those old people you saw probably had some health condition that made them more vulnerable to catching illnesses, and now that masks are normalized in countries where they weren't before, they are using one as a small preventative measure for themself.

Because it's more of a choice to now. Plus, some of those people who wear masks might be sick themselves and don't want to spread their germs around. And some elderly people might not have as good immune systems so they don't want to get sick themselves, especially if there's a bug like the flu going around recently.

I had a doctor tell me early on, "it's like throwing sand at a chain link fence".   The particles for COVID and many other pathogens are far smaller than the mask can filter. It was all theatre.

They quantity frequency MAY have decreased SOMEWHAT BUT... the 'vector' as HOW viruses are exchanged HASN'T. In Tokyo, among the most densely populaced cities... MANY voluntarily elect to filter public exposure; especially if their immunity is compromised! (Y)

Covid is going around still (or again). It is pretty serious to a lot of people. It can get one coughing so badly they cannot catch their breath. So a mask can help preventing catching it, or if you have it, prevent spreading it. I think a lot of people have it but think it is just a severe flu.
And there are those people who cough without covering their mouth. Spreading anything they have to everyone who comes into the same space.

1: if you are currently sick, this is actually a good way to protect people around you.

2: missinformation about the masks were treated as "scientific truth" for so long that it was burned into peoples brains.

Those people who have a compromised immune system or respiratory problems could be at risk if they get Covid once.

Lots of people can recover from it, but there are some that even with the shots could be fatal if they were to get it.
