You may not be doing them right. However, if you are just starting to do them, and your leg muscles aren't very strong then it could also be that you are just dealing with the beginners hump that comes with every new exercise. There is always the beginning where it seems impossible. Keep it up and you will get better each time :)
About form: When bending, yes your butt sticks out. More importantly though, is to keep your knees from going past your toes. You can stick your arms out for balance. Don't forget to keep your back straight.
Watch videos on YouTube to get a better idea about what the proper form looks like. This helps me when I am trying a new exercise for the first time.

Nope if your feeling your thighs that's good, just think about it your moving your thighs up and down they are obviously doing some work, but yes your butt should be sticking out pretty far. as you go down your knees shwould not exted past the tips of your toes. and your shoulders should aline with your knees...
It does indeed hit your quads (front of thighs) - probably more then your glutes (butt) and hamstrings (back of thighs).
That said, yes your butt should stick out doing them. Your weight should be over your mid foot and heels down, NOT over toes. And your back should be strong and cured nt arched forward.
To use your glutes/hams more focus on unfolding from the waist a little more out of the bottom, then taking over with quads by straightening knees.
It's easier to feel that if yore going heavy.
