Anyone go back to work after staying at home for awhile?

I have been a stay at home for the last four years! I have been so grateful to be able to do this, and have a husband to work as hard as he does for us! With the economy changing and a good opportunity ahead of me I am jumping on it, looking out for my childrens future. I hate thinking about going to work. I will miss them so much but still will be home for at least 4-6 hours with them and have weekends to spend! It is just hard. They will be staying with family at least and begin school within the next year. I wish I could wait until than but I do not want to loose my opportunity to make a better future. if the economy wasn't going up and paychecks werent staying the same I wouldn't have to worry, but that is not the case. Encouraging words and anyone who had to do this how did you adjust? I think I will worse than they will be lol! Thanks in advanced!

Would you go to work and make a better future?

Would you stay home still and still tackle a struggle here and there?

Would you wait a year and hope the opportunity still stands when your children enter school

I can't speak from the perspective you are looking for, but my mom was sort of in your boat a while back. She was a stay at home mom for a while. I honestly don't know when she went to work, but I do know that she has said she regretted not going back sooner. She would say that if she had gone back sooner she would have a position more appropriate for someone her age, but she obviously didn't have the same experience as the people her age because she started working later. Then again our situation was quite different from yours. I don't know if she knew it would happen when she started working again, but a few years later she divorced my dad. She needed that job to support us as a single mom, since my dad was not financially responsible for us and does not play a big role in any of our lives. I'm not saying this is bound to happen for you, it sounds like you have a wonderful family and husband. What I am saying is that it is good to be financially stable on your own. You never know what could happen and having two sources of income in a household is generally better than one. You may miss that last year before your kids are off to school, but you will still have plenty of time with them and this opportunity may not be there a year from now. I was never upset about my mom starting work again... I barely even remember. Work for her was far more fulfilling, but that is just the type of person she is. She loves me and my brothers and we are all very close despite her going back to work and that being a priority in her life. Either way your kids are going to start school and you won't be able to go with them there. This is a good way to begin the transition and to grab onto an opportunity before it passes you up.

thanks for the answer. sorry your parents divorced but know the feeling. I hope it never happens and can not see it happening but you really never know. I can now save for there future, and we will have dinner and weekends to do things. and kids don't need things to make them happy just love which is very true play and love them, but at least we can do some more extra little things . Damn economy I wouldn't have to worry if it didn't change so much lol ! But I am getting excited. Thanks again

I'd say go back to work. Work sucks no matter when you are starting or coming back to lol. It won't suck for too long. As long as your taking some stress off your family. just remember to not become a work zombie and spend time with the people you love.

o I won't lol...and hoping in a few years to beable to drop down to part time but idt paychecks will let me lol...but thanks it will be hard and more prob on me than them... but just happy this job will have my kids future really set, and still have dinner as a family and weekends to do things with them. Its just crazy I guess a huge change an I'm for adventurer and change but I guess it just freaks me out alittle now that it could be happening lol...
