How much should I work out?

I want to gain muscle tone and lose some weight, so how much should I be working out? ( I have also changed my diet)

Right now I go to the gym 2 or 3 days a week for cardio (45 mins)

and one day for upper and lower body toning.

Is that a good amount? should I increase?
How much should I work out?
