Boyfriend working away, limited contact. Am I right to be angry?

My boyfriend has to go away three times a year with his job usually for about 8 weeks due to his role.

Prior to going away he told me out for a family meal with his mum, step mum and a few family friends. Before he went he said to email and text him if there were any problems. The first two weeks we were emailing and he said he missed me.

After about two weeks I sent him an email saying I didn't think he was making an effort and was ignoring me.He said he was not speaking to me or his mum as he felt home sick and me arguing with him was making it worse.

I haven't spoke to him since am I bring selfish for expecting him to make an effort to contact me when he is away.

I feel like he doesn't care about me if he can't be bothered to make an effort to talk.

usually yes you would have a right to be angry but I think you're being petty here, he gave you a legitimate reason although he should really have sent you both emails to say why he won't be making contact before cutting you both out.

ask his mum is he cut contact with her too, if he hasn't he's lying and you would have a right to be mad

i can see how contacting your loved ones whilst away would make your home sickness way worse though, plus he may feel on the brink of quitting his job to come home and he either can't afford to or really likes his job too much besides the new 8 week away rota to quit so wants to minimise his risk of stressing out.

It depends on a number of factors, I'd say.

Did you go into this relationship knowing of his travels? Does he need this job real bad -- and do you support him on it? Are you'll both financially independent? Does he have any special reason for working away (such as, higher pay, chances of promotion, etc)?

As a guy, I'd expect some support from my lady if I had to take on such work. At the same time, I would not stretch her too far so she feels neglect.
