My partner and I have been together for over a year, how do I know he wants to marry me?

He was in a relationship for 7 years, three years, before we dated. He told me that he didn't love her but he was ready to commit to a lifelong commitment. Now that I think about it, is that how he and I will go? Our relationship is very different than the one he was previously in. But, I don't know if he sees me in the long run. He's always said, "when we get a house" or "whenever we get married". But he's not ready to commit like that, yet. We're both not honestly. I just know that if he didn't see us long term, he would've ended things. But is that true?

Only when we first got together, to let each other know that we were both looking to date for marriage. His plan is to wait until he's financially stable enough. It's not a hot topic we really discuss

I come from a lot of trauma and unfortunately, you're right. It's something that's being worked on mentally and physically. It's hard for me to recognize someone actually wanting to be with me. If that makes sense?
