Not at that stage yet... I think if I were to marry it would be small. I dunno I just can't be bothered, there's extended family that doesn't bother with me despite making an effort for years
I'm Indian 🤣. You'll see 200-300 people from from the groom's side and an equal number for the bride. (This is for SMALL weddings. Can't afford anything too extravagant, just a mediocre wedding where guests are invited and everyone has fun)
absolutely not happening. since i'll probably be having a backyard wedding because they cost way too much. and my partners big family way overshadows my small family.
We didn't have anyone at our wedding. We got married by the justice of the peace. You invite whoever you feel comfortable having and who you can afford to pay for
This is basically a tradition in our region to invite all of your relatives/extended families. The number of guestlists increases by 400-1000 in a single wedding night combining both sides.
I wish I could organise my wedding with very few chosen members but in my community throwing a pompous party is mandatory even if you have to take a loan for the same. I’d feel obligated to invite many extended members for sure.
No, not obligated. I just WANT to invite them! I love my extended family dearly. They mean a lot to me. Most of them have been way kinder to me than my immediate family has.
You will have family again once married. No one can ever replace yours and I am truly sorry for all that has happened and that you have gone through. 🙏 But you will not be as alone as you think. Plus you still have your friends that you can invite. I always said that I wouldn’t do a his and hers side when it comes to ceremony seating. I want everyone to come together as one

depends what is extended, one layer yes. uncle aunt cousin but not second cousins unless they asked.
I never understood the first/second/third cousin thing. If its my cousin then theyre family but i’d likely only invite one cousin

Man thats a crazy amount
🤣 That's normal in Indian marriages

I see
20 or less is a good number I'd say. Would you recognize all of the 200 people if you walked past them in the street? Sensible attitude.
Im very familiar with at least 120 of the 200.
I'm impressed!
I always remember my enemies lmao

So this is very common in South Asian region.
Oh okay I’m not south Asian so wasn't familiar with that. 400+ wowww
Yes... Wedding is a major and big party here. You'll find many people who you even don't know and met for the first and last time... :D
Yea i wouldn’t be down with that

Mandatory? Damn that sucks
I can always go against my community and invite less members but as it’s a one time event I think I need to comply.
This speech comes to mind… 😬
https://youtu.be/CiRu_W9tzM8Thats exactly the culture here... and some things are just "supposed" to happen like this one... so it is what it is tbh can't really do much
The culture where
If I were to ever get married. None of my family except my daughter would be invited.
I dont blame you
Not these days. I'd rather have a few close friends there
Sounds good
Bad blood with family. I chose my friends 😁
My parents, their parents, friends and that's enough for me!
I know thats right
No. I invited my close family only. No cousins or long lost aunts and uncles
Yep thats what I’d do
That is how it goes in our culture. Not just extended family but also extended families of extended family who we are in touch with.
What culture is that
Brown culture 😂
Oh okay I’m not indian so wasn't aware
Neither am I. It may not even be true for most Indians. But you did land in the correct "zone" with that hint of Brown 😂
If you meant brown as in black then yes. If you meant brown as in non-black then I’m not quite familiar
Brown as in South Asian.
Oh okay yea I’m not Asian but nice to know
Absolutely not xD
I'm getting dizzy just thinking about the cost and logistics of catering to hundreds of people 😣
Lolz
Not obligated but I would like to. Haven't seen much of aunts and cousins in past few years. Would be good to get them all together
No, not obligated. I just WANT to invite them! I love my extended family dearly. They mean a lot to me. Most of them have been way kinder to me than my immediate family has.
I have no family, extended or otherwise. I guess this is one hidden blessing of being the only child of two only children.

No thank God. Even with my mother, people had orders to have her arrested if she showed up.
I def want security
