My partner wants to keep our engagement a secret…is this normal?

Long story short - we’ve been together for almost 2 years and he spontaneously proposed to me in August. At the time he hadn’t gotten me a ring or told his parents (him and his parents are SUPER close).
He said we would shop for a ring together which we haven’t yet (and it’s fine, it’s not the most important thing) but what’s bugging me is that he’s still not told his family.
I asked him why and he said that an engagement should just be between the two of us and no one else has to know until we send out the wedding invite (in 12-18 months).

Is this normal?

I think it sounds pretty normal. He probably wants to keep it a surprise to others for now. And BAM everybody gets invited to your wedding. Don’t worry too much.
