Eh, my boyfriend doesn't like my music (yet still expects me to make a living with it >_>)
I think you should be honest, if he wants to be a professional he has to learn that not everyone likes his style. Seemingly no one likes my style, but I'm not giving up :P Just tell him it's not your thing, and that if you WERE into that kind of genre, you'd like it.
It's all part of being an artist of any kind. It hurts at first but you have to get used to it and know that 90 percent of the critics don't know what they're talking about.
If he's ending it just because of that though, he's kind of stupid (the same goes for you if you're ending it due to his music).

Wow that's tough! I think this is one of those situations where you can't be honest lol
do you even like him? ha ha I mean if I loved my girlfriend and she played music for me I'd love it.. not matter what it sounded like! Just the fact that she'd play something for me is really special. just encourage and support him and he may gain confidence and become a better musician..
Telling the truth from the start is better than letting things build up and him finding out you have been lying the entire time.
