Absolutely. My personal example is people with drug addiction. I have a family member that was an addict and as much as I wanted to help him, he was very hard headed and did not want to listen to anything I have to say (it felt like a personal attack to him) I had to sit back and watch him want to get better. He’s recovered but it was still a time in my life where I did want to help him, but knew I couldn’t.

Jennifer, I look at it this way.
If I want to help someone I will. and if my g/f wants to turn against me for it? Then she and I are incompatible, and I will find someone else who IS compatible.
Luckily though The girl I am with thinks like me, and would be upset if I DIDN'T help when I could.
I always try to help even if I know someone will never listen or accept any sort of assistance physically or mentally. You never know but your actions or efforts might help em in the slightest way. You can't make everyone feel better but the people who do end up feeling better are worth it.
