What age are you no longer a “young adult”?

I saw a post where people were arguing what age you are no longer a “young adult”

I say young adult is your 20s. Once you’re 30, you’re an adult adult.
some people were saying under 35, some people were even saying under 40. I can understand 35 but 40? Calm down grandma 💀 imagine pushing 40 years old and still calling yourself a “young adult” lol embarrassing.

For me I always said 30s. That's when more of the things of life take in for most people such as marriage, kids, and house or at least that's what they make it seem like in tv shows. I was recently talking to someone in her 70s though and she said that 30s aren't old because when you get older then 30s you'll realize that 30s wasn't as old as you made it seem back then. And I think she has a point because at 30s you're not as old as say someone in their 40s or 70s but you're also not as young as someone in their 20s. 40 is not old, but its definitely not young either. Age is just a state of mind and you're only as old as you make yourself feel. I know some people who are in their 30s and party like they're in their 20s. There are some 70s and 80s year olds who are still going strong, while there are teens and 20 year olds who have the health of an old person I guess you can say. Age is a sate of mind I believe because before talking to many older people I used to complain about getting old when in actuality I wasn't and was just putting it in my mind that I was. I'm 24 by the way. Sorry for the long comment. Just wanted to share my thoughts. This is something I've been thinking about recently.

Yo easy on grandma calling over there 👉 😂. I’m 40 in October and I don’t consider myself grandma nor a young adult 🤣. Young adults range from 16-24. 16 is the age where teenagers are allowed to get a driver’s license in Canada. So therefore, they are given a privilege and a right to learn a basic life skill as a young adult since driving is life/death! 25 upwards are considered real adults as life goes downwards after that 😂 jk!!!

I see it professionally. When you're in high school you're a child. In college and in entry level jobs (internships, apprentice, associate, trainees etc.) you're a young adult. In any managerial position (even junior managers) I will treat you as full adult as by then you have full understanding of how the world works and you can be held accountable for any single little behaviour of yours. You remain a full adult throughout marriage, kids, and all those promotions until your kids become young adults. When your kids get out of high school, that is when you become old.

I would go with age 24... because that's around the age when your brain has finally reached "adulthood" and "full development" legally you're an adult, physiologically, you have a young brain...

25 and on, you're a fully developed adult, and adult that is young but not a young adult

Anyway, I think young adult is 18 up to 25. Late 20s definitely considered an adult. I know people like to say in your 30s you are taken seriously by those older than you. If people are so eager to look down on you because of your age, they're idiots. Age is just a number. It's all about your mind and how you hold yourself.

Never mind the people who claim that they are still "young " until they are 50. They're just people out there who can't face the reality of aging.

From my experience living in society, when people refer to young adults, they are really referring to folks 18-25. Many job training programs are only willing to accept applications from "young adults" between ages 18-25. They're not willing to accept anyone older than that. Sure a 26 yr old is still considered young but I dont think it will fit into the mold of "young adult" category. You would think that 26 is young but job training programs typically want younger folks.

When I worked at counselling centre we tended to use it for 16-25 (15-25).

16 and 17 year olds have a lot of say in their own lives, are able to consent sexually and medically.

They can join the military, get married etc.

It’s important to treat then as developing young adults and not as children, however with some guidance and assistance along the way.

equally as people pass 18, they still have Learner plates on and are developing mentally and socially within soceity.

30 is usually the age where you cross from young adult to adult. Your early 20s are for most of your mistakes and your late 20s is where you pay for those mistakes and try to fix them. By 30 you are who you are and not much is going to change. Also, by 30 your body will let you know if you properly cared for it or not.

If I really have to pick an age - 30. Because by that time, people really starts asking "when are you gonna get married" or something like "when are you two gonna have a child".

But I would say, being adult is mostly not about age, it's about what you do. How responsible are you as a member of the society? Can you function well as a human being by yourself?

What do you mean by adult adult? Are you saying I ain’t an adult adult? I’d say it’s quite subjective; young is a matter of relativity and opinion. What I really hate is people calling me kid, although I grew out of childhood. If people can call others by a name which is younger than who they really are, can they call a kid a baby, a baby a foetus, a foetus an embryo, and an embryo something that doesn’t exist? Can they ban a 18-year-old for going to the cinema to see a R-rated film, if they are 70?

I feel like a young adult would be up until 30 years old. but I guess if I was 30 I would still call myself a young adult because not many want to admit to themselves that they are not young and it can be harmful mentally transitioning that you are no longer young.

For me it was 27-28. I think because you hit that range and realize how close that is to thirty. It made me feel mature for the first time. You’re expected to have some form of loose plan for the future by that age. No more messing around.

I would say young adulthood stops once the mid 20's begins. If we're going to split the 20's evenly and round the portions to the nearest integer, that would mean that young adulthood stops at 23. After that, you are a full fledged adult.
