I saw this question asked in a video and the majority of the people got it wrong, and yet the answer is so simple
So I'm curious to see what everyone has to say

In a conditional sentence like "If you pass", the condition must be met first before the rest has any meaning.
If the condition must be met first, it implies that some time has passed between "if you pass" and "now". If time passes then you have no idea what place you are in "now".
But has time passed? At one moment you are exactly even. At some future time you are ahead. So what happened in between?
I would guess 2nd place yourself then.. LOL..
When you pass the person in second place, you become the person in second place, and the person who was until that time in second place falls back to third place.
First, because everyone else has fallen because some lady trying to get a video got in the way and caused a chain reaction face plant for everyone else.

Then you are now in second place.
2nd place. You were third place until you passed the person in front of you to move into the second place slot.
2nd place unless you turned and are going the opposite way, in which case you will have left first place and are now in 3rd place.
No, you'd still be in second place no matter which direction you pass from! Good point, though.
I don't know what "2ed" is, but if you meant "second place," then you would go from previously third and become the new second place holder. Has anyone not played Mario Kart before?
It all depends on whether the person in second place lapped you or not.
@caring__1 I wouldn't go as far as saying the runner could have lapped the other runner more than once because that would be unlikely. It's not uncommon for a runner to have been lapped.
@caring__1 Bingo!
You are in 3rd place and pass the person in second, now you are in 2nd place and they are in 3rd.
That ''question'' is now around for ages.
Anyhow: I'd now be the third person to share this place with.
The place itself is unknown.
It depends on where you two are in the race. If he's out front and you pass him, you''re in first place, if he's in 12th and you pass him, you're in 12th.
As he is in 2nd place, you move into 2nd place when you pass him.
You just moved up from 3rd to 2nd. How hard is this?
If I pass going forward, second. Unless the runner in first was barely ahead and my stride that passed 2nd also passed 1st. I'm a runner and have actually done that before.
If you pass the person in 2nd place then you are in 2nd place. He is in 3rd.
Second only.
Why people get it wrong when it's asked personally
Less time to think and rush to answer that question.
I know the answer is second but my brain thinks it should be first. Humans are stupid sometimes.
Haha... 2nd of course. Made me think for 3 seconds.. I wouldn't lie !!!
Depends on if he is in 2nd place before or after you pass him.
you would be in first place not very hard, but you have to finish in first place
TBD... the race is not over yet, lol
You will be now in second place
you're in second place
2nd place.
