Why do people stare at me and my boyfriend when we are going out? Is it because it's an interracial relationship?

I am black my boyfriend is white and it annoys me a lot when people stare at us constantly people from all races, like we from another planet or something, he doesn't mind (honestly I think he likes the attention) but I hate it

One of my friends said that is because both of us are really good looking and attractive, but I think it's more than that.

With things like that I don't feel like going out at all can I do something to avoid it.

With this it seems like everybody is racist really, almost everybody stares

Humans are naturally seeking information, so interracial couples might be uncommon in the area so they stare. They can either stare because your not pretty or you are beautiful, you will never know! They might be even jealous of seeing you two so happy together or even think, "Huh.. I was young like her once upon a time."

Just ignore them. It's like when little kids stare at you when you're kissing someone except they usually blurt out what's on their mind.

If you can't ignore them, play with them. Have a super make out session or stare back intensely. They back off pretty fast or get embarrassed that they didn't realize they were people-watching you.

My boyfriend and I get stared at too and followed once. People are gonna stare it's human nature. Yes some of it is from a negative place, but not all. Some people are genuinely just looking cause they're curious like little kids, some because they have wanted to date another race and wonder how he/she did it, or it's just unusual where you live.

I look at other couples too, interracial or not. It's just what people do lol.

A - maybe you guys are attributing your sensitivity to the subject to the opinions of those around you (could just be innocent looking on their part in other words)

B - maybe they are looking with admiration that the world has advanced in terms of breaking the race divide

C - maybe disgust...in which case they are dumb and should be pitied...ignore them...

Could be a few reasons, some of which:

- Could be because they are happy to see an interracial relationship

- Jealousy that you are attractive and not with them

- Genuinely racist

It might not even be any of them but you shouldn't let it bother you.

Yes people look at interracial relationships but it's not always because they hate seeing a black and a white together. I'll admit, I'm one of the "glancers" but I'll notice it because I don't often see that pairing, or if both of you are really attractive then I think to myself "they're a good looking couple". It's not always a negative thing.

You are living in a country with 220 million white people. I think everyone has some kind of racist feelings or opinions, except now days more often than not people don't openly express it like they once did. I date whomever I want to do and if people don't like it or look at me like that, the middle finger becomes my best friend.

It’s good to see other people like you and your boyfriend are of different race because so are me and my boyfriend, so I know exactly what you mean. There are a lot of people that are racist and don’t think black girls should be with white men or vice versa, but it doesn’t matter what they think or feel about your relationship with you boyfriend. It only matters what you think and how you feel. Screw everybody else! (:

if this happened 50 years ago when there was a lot of racist people then I wouldn't be bothered but I hate it that people are still racist even now ! :S I get a lot of -1 when I say I'm arab on GAG :/
