Did any of you had to say goodbye to a family pet. How long did it take to get over your grief?

My late cat Trooper 😺 August 2019. Months before the covid began.

November 2021. He looked at felt strong, athletic, and full of energy.

April 2022. Days after that image of Trooper was taken. He showed early signs of syndromes. Vomiting every single day 😟

May 2022. The syndromes eradicated most of his tummy weight making him just skin and bones ☹️ Last home picture of Trooper 🥺

Last day and image of him with me. June 22th, 2022. Censored out my face. Was bursting in tears 😿

Been almost a year now since Troopers passing. But got to be strong for him and myself 😢🤗

Trooper was 14 years old. Had him for 10-11 years 😿

Lost 4 dogs and 1 guinea pig

1st dog we lost to heartworms, I quite young so can't remember how long I spent mourning other then remembering I did cry

Guinea pig I lost when the neighbours dog jumped the fence and killed him

2nd and 3rd we lost to cancer, mourning for months

4th we have no defendant answers as to what was the cause of his passing. I know from the moment he turned 5 and over the next 10 years he had quite a lot of health problems some no matter what test the vet done they couldn't ever find out what was exactly causing some of the problems or why those problems were responding to treatment. After his passing spent months mourning

Everyone mourns differently some people often get another pet spon after their animals passing to help with the grieving process.

maybe never but i don't break down and cry anymore when my dog died 2 years ago... i often think about him and the things he did... he was very cute.

We lost the first cat, Tommy, when he was 11 years old to pancreatitis. We lost his brother/litter mate, Willy, to dementia when he was 19 years old. It took a little over a year from Tommy's passing to feel good enough to rescue Milly, our third cat. After Willy passed, will got another rescue cat, Zoey, about 8 months later. And we got another rescue cat, Fruitcake, about 8 months ago. Now we have Milly, age 12; Zoey, age 3; and Fruitcake, age 1.

Yep, it is hard on the system when you lose a pet. They are like family and sometimes better than certain family members.

It was about year ago and still think about them when I see certain things that trigger memories.

Yep. Having pets tons of joy to many. Look at people, many of them today. Wickedness, greed, cruelty, etc. Not animals. Always there for us 😻

Yea to Blue. It was sad but I dont connect with animals like i do humans, so it maybe took an hour of mourning

He was a pit/lab mix. He died of a heatstroke. It was sad to see him lying stiff. He was still a small pup. I dont even think he made it to a full 1 year old. May your pet rest in peace too

Yes, I had a cat named Piper who passed this last September. I was heartbroken 💔 for a long while.

Family labrador because it was old. I had to put it down with my glock. Took me 9 shots before our dog finally died.
Of course also getting rid of unwanted puppies and kittens too isn't easy.

Look at it this way, you did all you could for your cat, and you have lots of good memories with him. He had a good life, so don't ever forget that.
