Our insurance company is no longer going to insure auto in our state, so we have to find a new provider. The prices seem to have no rhyme or reason to them, they make you put in the VIN of your car and then still give you a generic number based on a "2015 Honda Accord driven 10,000 miles per year" so its not even accurate anyways. Finally called an independent agent who did some shopping around for me, but it's hard to compare his numbers to online quotes since the online quotes might not even be accurate. Seems like a racket to me...
Ugh. So true. I have always hated doing it.
At least in America it's an independent, competitive system. Now in Canada, it's much worse. It's run by the state, so we have zero choice. We have to get it just through the one supplier. It was millions in arrears. One of the main reasons they gave is that people were suing them nonstop for damages and pain and suffering, if they got into an accident. It bled the system. But let's be real, they also completely mismanaged the funds. It's technically citizen-owned, but that's total b. s. we rarely get benefits of that. Although I did get some rebate cheques when profits finally happened. Insurance is a messy, ugly business. I hate it. I used to work in it, too, being a technical assistant doing the dull paperwork of insuring drilling wells in the oil and gas business boooo worst job ever. Did you hear Allstate and State Farm stopped selling insurance to new California homeowners? This is what insurers do. Too many payouts - ah, f this, let's just not do it anymore. Uh... that's why we got your insurance, so that you would pay out if something happens. Which usually it doesn't.
Car insurers also need your address. And then which coverages you want. That's pretty much all the metrics they use.
What was the reason for them pulling out of your state? Car accidents or thefts?

Car insurance companies are annoying. I've heard that some won't be be accepting people that have kias cause of all the Kia Boyz thefts. Which is super unfortunate since I own two kias. Hoping my insurance doesn't drop me 😵
Don't forget the "you need to tell us if anyone over the age of fourteen is living with you, even if they're not on the policy". No. No, I don't; that's none of your damn business. And of course, we need to know your credit rating, since if you're smart enough to not spend money you don't have, the extortionists tracking you will say bad things, and THAT will cause your rates to go up.
It's so difficult because they choose not to be sensible about it, and they have no fear of repercussion. Crucify a few of the bastards, and their attitudes will change. Inexplicably, though, that's illegal.
I really don't know what you mean. For instance when I financed my 2017 Chevy Impala, the dealership set me up with some overpriced close to 300 a month bullshit. I cancelled that the next day and went as cheap to satisfy their mandatory full coverage. Now that I own the car it's 19 bucks a month! If you're a good driver, shop around and find the best deal with the lowest coverage.

heh they are designed that way... corporations put zillions into research covering everything from the ethical decision making skills of their clientele to their preferred way to hang their toilet paper (over the roll vs under). they want you flummoxed, frustrated and stressed so in your stressed, adrenalized state you miss details, make mistakes, and rush to the finish... we're all prey
Insurance companies know it's more expensive to not bundle. That's how they get you, so, they have that right
We live in a capitalistic society. That's what ya get
All insurance is a racket. It doesn't matter if it's car insurance, health insurance or homeowners insurance.
Insurance in general is a racket.
