I am curious whether your answer depends on your handedness. If there is a rationale which explains your preference, please elaborate!
I'm right handed and prefer over, not that I think handedness has anything to do with it.
I actually use two hands because I use one hand to hold the paper and tear with both hands once I have spooled out the precise length of paper required. If you just try ripping the paper off, it doesn't always tear and the roll will keep spinning and unraveling.
My wife saw the below picture once and now insists on having the paper facing 'over'.
I never thought it mattered. I just put the paper on the dispenser, I don’t pay attention to what direction it’s facing.
One time my friend told me that my “toilet paper is backwards” like bro if you don’t just wipe your ass and shut up Lmao
I don’t think handedness has anything to do with it. I’m left handed but I’ve never had a problem getting toilet paper no matter which way it’s facing or what side of the toilet it’s on.
In my house, we have it “under” because it kept my dog, when she was a puppy, from attacking it and pulling all the paper off the roll. It would just roll around and around and not come off. Now it’s just a habit.
I'm right handed and I put it on however I feel like it: absolutely no preference or rationale. Why?
Because at the end of the day, it has the same purpose no matter how it goes on. I was raised to put it on "under," and did all my life until I got on my own and have my own house. Now I basically place it however I feel like: over, under... has no effect on me.
Exactly. It takes the same amount of effort no matter how its put on lol
if you have a pet, under is less likely the pet will pull and if pet rolls it rolls up not down. otherwise over better.
@strateguy632 That’s valid man! 👍

Who cares which way just put it on there
because over is better easier to pull and practical.
@strateguy632 I don't notice a difference
Over is correct since I’ve tried both ways and it’s harder to grasp when it’s under and sometimes it keeps rolling so I keep in the over position even though it looks better in the under position, being right handed doesn’t make a difference, my ex was left handed and never said anything
It has nothing to do with left or right handed. Over is correct one. It's easier to grab paper that's not close to wall. Ergonomically it makes more sense on the first picture.
The original patent for this invention from the 19th century only shows "over" as the correct application.
Hotels everywhere use this option while at home people are onviously free to choose.
Over is the easiest to reach. Especially in a pinch.
Other than that? Meh, no big deal. Same with toilet seat. I don't make a fuss about it. I care more about not getting evicted, not damaging my health, not starving, not passing out of fatigue etc... many more things needing real attention over trivial matters.
Doesn't matter if your left or right handed. Over is correct because it's more hygienic. There is less chance of the user's hand touching the wall. If the user has germs or traces of shit on their hands you don't want either transferred to the wall for the next person to touch.
i go rogue and put it on the sink top-- bring on the angry mob 😂
I prefer over its more easier to take it off than going under and pulling the toilet roll from under its like doing it backwards over i prefer
This question gets asked every few months. The consensus (though not by a huge margin) is always OVER.
like hotels
I'm right handed and have read the actual patent- over is correct.
Inside a draw lol problem solve! If you can find it, use it however you wish. Then put back the unused toilet paper where you found it.
Over is correct in my opinion. It just feels right.
and hand doesn't bang wall and paper doesn't press wall in contrast to under make harder to grab.
@strateguy632 true
I think its more of a cat owner vs dog owner thing.
Just give me some paper so i can whipe my shit off my asswhole, have it your way 😉.
Which ever way people prefer it is the correct way for them…
There is an advantage to under in that there is slightly more friction so you can tear some sheets off more easily

I find that over just looks better. However both are equally functional unless you have a pet like a cat that likes to hit the roll with its paw. In which case under prevents the pet from unraveling the entire roll.
I am left handed and under is the right way to do it.
Over - of course. Hand dominance is irrelevant. Over is simply the easiest to use.
Some women would just be happy to see a guy put it on the dispenser to begin with.
others would nag "you can't even do this right".
this is really no debate... over is the correct way for obvious reasons. However I really don't care when i see it done wrong.
What's Toilet paper!..
Water Jet, Let's goo!..
Even better the 👋👋✋
I am ambidextrous and I think that over is correct, although I am comfortable with either way.
Over is obviously correct. People who place it under don’t even deserve to be breathing oxygen.
I thought everyone knew the paper always goes over.
I'm a right handed person and the toilet paper and the paper towels come over the top.
That moment you put a new roll on thinking it is one way; but as you tear away the first sheet you realize it isn't.
I didn’t realize this was actually suppossed to matter. I literally don’t care
No matter how you put it if your hands reach to it while pooping it's more than enough 😄😄I guess.
Over, but if you're a cat owner, under. lol
Does it really matter what your dominant hand is though? Wouldn't it depend more on the side the dispenser is on?
Just use a Muslim Shower. I hate toilet paper. It doesn't look clean to me 😒
don't think there is a correct way. I personally use it over, no real reason for that but feels more correct if you would. Could be the opposite for others as well.
It doesn't matter if you are left or right handed. Over is the correct one.
Over; otherwise you have to claw the wall with dirty hands.
Correct way is on the hook
? Not sure what that means.
I mean it’s correct to actually put the roll on a hook vs having it just sitting on top of the back of the toilet
I've always had it over, simply because it appears to make it more accessible.
Don't care as long as there is butt wipe there when I need it.
I'm LEFTY, and over is the way I install TP.
Always under don't be a psycho lol
I chose Option F.
yes so you can use it thats it. have it ready and easy to get to
yes in are home is over
Over is correct
Only Under if you don't really like them.
i personally don't think it matter
For cat owners, it’s under.
@MikeInHawaii I had a cat that would/could unroll it either way I hung it then lay down and sleep on the pile of it on the floor.
@Fireguy17 I’ve had roommates with cats. I’ve found a squirt gun is the best feline disciplinary device made.
Over, it's easier to take off.
Not to me.
I put it in under.
