Do you have aphantasia? If not, what number can you see?

aphantasia is the inability to picture something in your mind which apparently only 2% to 5% of people have it and I apparently do, I can't really imagine anything although I can think of it or remember it, I always thought it was normal to not be able to really see an image in your head, I'd always watch TV shows when I was younger of the comedy where they show the characters imagine a scenario and it shows a clear imaging of their imagination and I was like "ppfff if only that was true 😏" its now clicking in that I'm the odd one 😂

I can't picture the apple, the fact that it's just an apple doesn't help, I can't imagine just an apple, it's vague, is it on the table , on a tree, in a basket, the background, what color is it, it's a wall, a peaceful landscape,... Well my mind can't picture a simple thing, It's like, I need concept,
I'm not asking you to create a concept huh, just to say I cannot picture an apple and a blank space, my mind need to be full of things then I can picture whatever you want me to picture, if it's an apple tree growing on my table, I could imagine it even with my eyes open 🙂

I'm a 1 I can picture things really well but it's sort of limited in the focus. It's like shining a flashlight around a dark room except the rest of the room is not dark it's just less detailed less focused on or just not there at all. Or I can focus on a whole room but then it's also not as detailed or parts of it just disappear because the focus is always changing. But when I really want to focus on something I can see it very clearly. I also wrote whole stories in my mind taking inspiration from media I saw but also adding my own writing, and I'd try and imagine it as it played out and it did work but as I said the scale is limited so it's hard to focus on the bacjground when you're imagining a fight scene or something so it would just be white and then you think of the background but it interrupts your action and stuff so it's kinda hard to play a movie inside your head. But it's fun to try things out.

I’m sure I do, haha. I think it’s the reason I don’t like to read. I’m just taking in text, I’m not getting a scene playing out in my head. I’m probably like 4 on the diagram. I can roughly picture an apple, I course know exactly what one looks like, but I can only vaguely picture one in my head.

In this specific situation for me it is 1, but in other situations it could be 2 or 3 or even 4 if you ask me to picture something that I have never seen before, I can sort of imagine it in my mind but vaguely, in the past I could imagine it with more details, I wonder why that changed.
What you are saying is pretty interesting though.
So when you have to recall a memory, no image comes to you?

Nope I can only think of what happened without image, even the things people would consider traumatic, I think of it and I remember it but there's no imagery, I wanna know how it feels to see something in your mind, you lucky you can see it clearly too 🙁

I just can see it... you know that software engineers find solutions to their problems when they don't think about them, mostly during showers or sleep :D I sometimes picture parts of code when I shower... I can see it as clearly as on the screen...

When I describe something to my daughter, I see it...

Wow, have never heard of aphantasia, that's new to me. I would be 2 on that scale. But don't worry, for whatever reason that's what you were born with. I have synesthesia, mostly with music. Always have. It's okay.

@ChicoFromThe305 Synesthesia is where you can see colors in music, taste flavors from something you see, or see numbers and letters in some kind of order in time and space. My synesthesia is the first and last but especially colors with music. When I hear "Cruel Summer" from Taylor Swift I see pink, orange, and white, and thus makes me also see a sunset on a beach. When I hear "Well Enough Alone" from Chevelle I see black, purple, and silver.

Numbers also have genders to me.
