I have a new DVD and it won't play?

I have two different dvd players, won't play on both. It says on my tv, error wrong regional disc. I don't know what that means, so, I just looked up what that means and the internet says this.

Region codes prevent playback of DVDs in other geographical regions. If you receive a region error while playing a DVD, this means that the region code of the DVD does not match the region code of the DVD drive. In general, DVDs will play only on DVD drives that use the same region country codes.

Anyone know how I can fix the code, if that is what it is?

I have another dvd, that didn't play in one dvd player, I wasn't gonna give up so fast, I tried the other dvd player and it played. I was pretty sure, there's a way to fix this, I feel there s a way. so I wrote this post. Thanks for responding.

The region codes are mostly for copyright protection. They are made so DVDs bought in one part of the world won't play on DVD players from a different part of the world. I doubt if there is any way to change the code on the DVD itself, but you might be able to change the setting on the player. You'll just have to check your model of player.

Otherwise, you have to buy a DVD with the right code for your region, or buy a new player. Buying a DVD with the right code is cheaper.

This is why you need to be careful buying DVDs online from other countries.

If this is for movies or TV, you also have to pay attention to the video format. You can think of this like an app made for Android won't work on an iPhone, and vice versa. Since TV went digital, there are only a few formats. In the past there were dozens of them.

Bottom line is that there are two reasons why you should buy DVDs from your own country. If you understand the regions and formats, then you can take a chance buying from somewhere else. But if you don't understand all that stuff, then just buy from your country (which is still not a sure thing, but the odds are much better).

By the way, if you record your own DVD, I don't think it has a region code. But the format still needs to be compatible.

When buying DVDs online you have to check to make sure it's either region free or the region that you are in I know it's stupid but yeah all red tape BS that we've come up with. Like for me I live in the US so I cannot get a DVD that says pal which is what they use in England

Most commercial DVDs have "region codes", which are intended to prevent people from one region from buying/watching DVDs meant for another region. This allowed studios to release DVDs to different regions at different times and/or release DVDs in places where a movie would or would not be screened in theaters. Also, since DVDs were designed to be played on analog TVs originally, and because analog TVs had 3 different formats depending on your region, different DVDs would be formatted for different TV formats: NTSC, PAL, or SECAMP.

Blu-Rays also have regions, but far fewer of them, as digital TVs were standardized so that they had fewer formats and all TVs could play all formats.

Some DVDs are specifically produced to be "region-free", meaning they can be played on DVD players of all regions, though the DVD player still had to be able to convert out-of-format DVDs to the proper analog format - something not all DVD players could do.

There were DVD players that had "secret menus" that allowed you to turn off region blocking, and there are computer drives that could have replacement firmware that would ignore region blocking and allow DVDs from any region to be ripped (Blu-Ray drives as well), but these are pretty niche items.

American DVD's will be code 1. If you get one that has a 0 code, that means it'll play anywhere. It might have something to do with the voltage used in our electricity. For instance, if you buy a record played made for America but you use it in England or other countries with a didn't voltage in the power source, it'll probably play slower. I think there's adapters that can be bought to allow foreign stuff to be used in your country and vice versa. I can't say for sure but, maybe that'll get the DVD to play but, the best thing to do is return it for a code 1 or 0 copy.

My guess is that that's a way to contact the company to let them know you got a bad one or the wrong kind or what have you and can get them to swap yours for one that works.

The player instruction manual or the box the player came in will tell you which region it's built for. The codes are usually on the box the Dd came in. Usually on the back, sometimes on the spine. I don't know that a player can be switched from one code to another. As I said, MAYE with some of adapter you can buy where you plug it into the adapter and it converts the house power into the power the player can use to play region 2 DVD's

To avoid this error message, make sure that your DVD player and the DVD you are watching are both coded for the same region. Check the DVD case for more information. You can usually find the region code number printed over a small globe icon on the back of the case.

Well there are tools that will allow for the re-encoding of the DVD, but I cannot speak to the legality of doing so where you live. Here are some legal answers for the USA only as to bypassing copy-protection. In general "Fair use" does allow it if:

1. You purchased the DVD
2. The copy is for your personal use and you do not make others to give away or sell.
3. You do not sell or give away the original unless you destroy the copy.

If you have a Laptop or PC you may be able to play them on those and if you have the right software you may be able to transcode them so you can burn them to a new DVD, do not ask me more about this as it is not my strong suit.

I seem to remember thst you can change the region code on your DVD player but you can only do it once and you cannot change it back.

You have to get a DVD player that will play the region of the DVD or order the DVD with the correct region for your DVD player.

Hacks for computer DVD drives are easy to come by. I’m not so sure about regular DVD players though.

You need to either buy a DVD player that can play all regions or buy the DVD again with the right region code.

There are two different formats: PAL and NTSC. PAL works in Europe, NTSC works in America. You have the wrong format for where you live.
