I learned years ago that SMART stands for "Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology". That's why I don't own any SMART appliances. I don't want to have my activities monitored, analyzed, reported, stored or shared.
Even modern cars are SMART. I have a 2007 that doesn't have that capability.
I didn't get the covid jab because it contains nano technology that turns your body into a receiver/transmitter.
I can't avoid having a SMART electric meter, but it is a good 1000+ feet from my house and can't do anything but monitor my electric usage. At least it doesn't bombard me with 5G.
My wife and I only use our TV to watch movies together occasionally. I have it plugged into a power strip that is turned off unless we are watching TV. So it is essentially unplugged and can't monitor us unless we are watching a movie. That is scary enough because I tether it to my laptop to watch movies and who knows what they can get off of my laptop.
I do have an Apple i8 phone. Phones are notorious for monitoring you. But mine probably isn't as bad as newer models. And I don't use mine for anything but calling, texting, photos and a few apps like clock, weather, maps and navigation on occasion.
I do use a 9 year old MacBook Air and I'm sure that is a treasure trove of information for the corporate spies.
I have a really good, local internet provider that connects me via a dish. I trust that company much more than the major providers. But I don't know if spies have a way to monitor the information streaming from my satellite signal.
I hate these corporate and government motherfuckers who want to track and monitor people 24/7. We are being gradually enslaved.24 Reply

2 moAs for the world around us it’s a connected world & the one thing I learned is that if it’s connected something or someone could be watching you & your every move.
As for apps the second you click AGREE to the terms & conditions just remember you are giving that application permission to SPY On YOU.

2 moWell duh it's spying on me...
I mean I watch the ads magically switch on websites like facebook and X and it's just overly correlating with whatever I'm watching on my television... which is youtube mostly. [Cable television is for the technologically retarded that can't figure out how to get it for free with a smart TV]
I mean they know what I search even on the internet...
Futher more I watch true crime... and I've noticed what they've recently searched online is used against them in court. So don't go looking on google how to get rid of a dead body... just ask me.
10 ReplyWelcome to the wonderful world of IOT, The Internet of Things.
Every online connected device collects data
Even your blender.
But unless your TV has an audio recorder and a camera then it’s not magically recording
Mine is a smart tv but only accessible via remote, it’s not listening to my conversations.
I had one with a cam 10 years ago and that one might have been watching yes.20 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Other topic. No. I allowed my Samsung TVs access to internet and monitored them a week long with Wireshark. There was nothing suspicious.
However I would be careful using voice commands which are available in certain Samsung models. Every voice command will be send to server and translated in text, this is a high security risk.
Best option is to disable network access or to control network access with router firewall that allows just specific IP ranges like streaming services used on this device, while router blocks all other IP ranges.
Unfortunately IP ranges filter it's an option that demands some knowledge how networks work00 Reply2.1K opinions shared on Other topic. If I had one absolutely, its not a secret that they do that its right in the terms of service.
But I don't have a smart tv to begin with nor do I plan to ever get one exactly for this kind of reason. All you need is a large monitor and something hooked up to it.10 Reply
Anonymous(25-29)2 moAbsolutely. Used to be when the google maps car went by they were gathering data from your internet server but now with smart phones, tvs and tablets its very easy.
For instance, im sure im not the only one who has encountered this but maybe you are having a conversation about something at home and on your phone a product related to that conversation pops up on your phone, maybe you werent talking about anything but were washing your clothes and a product pops up on amazon for washing powder, maybe your doing an internet search and predictive text already has it there before you can type it. I had an incident with our camera system that i have to watch the baby room, where i caught someone saying awful things to our child, im very worried because we have other cameras that i change in front of and my husband and i have had relations in front of, hell I've had relations by myself. I now turn the cameras off.
00 ReplyFirst of all my 55 inch is about as dumb as the stupid remote that came with the thing when I bought it almost 8 years ago. And 3rd or whatever number we're on, if it's spying on me than it's wasting it's time! Haven't phones cornered that market?
10 ReplyNo. There's no cameras but anything else linked to any device with a camera yes, most of the time for stupid shit like targeted ads. That's why I have an ad blocker on my pc and phone when I browse YouTube. There's only so much I know how to do next to the TV to prevent ads getting to me.

2 moWhat is TV?
i only had one for about 10 years of my life time… maybe from 12-18 years old… even then I only watched a few shows/cartoons.
tvs are not interesting to me. So I don’t really care what it does.!

u 2 moI don't know, but it does seem suspicious that refrigerators now need internet connections and cars will soon be required to be built with facial recognition technology.

2 moAbsolutely!! That's one of the reasons I haven't watched t. v. in at least 6 years!! There is at least one hidden camera in the frame. Same with modern computer screens.

@arizonasunshine Yeah, bring a goat into the room wearing stockings and a bra and then pour chocolate sauce all over it. Bring in a pelican to have sex with it.
- 2 mo
Like I can afford chocolate sauce. Right!

@arizonasunshine Alright, spit on the goat.
2 mo15 years ago I was looking online for something few people look for. A CT switching relay, I never bought one online but after that I was getting AD's for these types of devices all the time and that's when I knew that my PC was spying on me.

But as a man who reads books and does not own a TV so...

Television is for the plebs!! 10 Reply1.7K opinions shared on Other topic. I have mine on a light switch and shut off if I'm up to something. But then there's Alexa. I have talked out loud about buying something and then saw an ad for one.

2 moI'd rather not think too much of these things. Even if they are is not like they're going to find anything obnoxious.

10 Reply4.7K opinions shared on Other topic. Mine arn't. Not that they don't try - I just don't allow them to "phone home" over my network. Whatever I can't kill on the TV itself, I block at the router
