What does it mean when a guy gives you a sad face?

Well there is this guy who everyime I hang out with him we laugh. Then I hang out with this other guy same class and hug him the other guy makes a sad face. I wonder if he thought we were dating but am single, So why does he make that face? We always smile when we greet each other and he smiled when I touched his hair. Also he was bored so he played a game on my phone and I listen to his music.
