Boyfriend is avoiding me after crying in my arms?

So we have been together for a bit over a year and before the other night I had never seen him cry before. He stayed up pretty much all night for two nights in a row because he had exams. I asked him to come to my place to relax and watch a movie, he came over at about 7, and he looked pretty exhausted. He got a call halfway through the movie, he went into the kitchen to take the call, I later found out that one of his high school friends was killed in a car crash.

After he came back he went back to watching the movie but after about 10 minutes, he started tearing up and then it turned into full blown crying. I just held him and stroked his hair until he fell asleep on my couch. I think it was mainly the exhaustion that caused the crying, anyway he has been avoiding me for the past 3 days. Is this a pride thing? Should I give him some space or confront him?

It sounds like pride to me, coupled with a strong initial reaction from the news.. Drop him a message (or say it face to face) where you let him know you are ok with it, and just want to comfort him, and that he knows where to find you. Then give him a bit of space.
It's a hard message to get, and people react differently. Let him react in his way, and let him know you're there for him and with him if he needs comfort, someone to talk to, anything really.

Know that if you pull this off right (and he doesn't let his pride get the best of him) it can be a rather deep bonding experience for you both. Him laying his heart bare, and you showing you truly just want him happy.
Also note that if you fuck this up bad, you can risk hurting him A LOT (though, you'd need to push him away or verbally hurt him to do that, so don't worry)

Don't confront him on it. That sounds kind of hostile, like he's done something bad or wrong. He's likely going through a lot of emotions right now, and he probably needs your support more than anything else.

Call him, tell him that you love him and that you're there for him. Tell him that you can only imagine how difficult it must be and that you want to be supportive.

He might be one of those guys that doesn't like to cry, but trust me, if you confront him about it and get pissy you'll likely just make him retreat even further.

What exactly are you confronting him about? He's exhausted through studying, he's shocked about his friend's death and emotionally drained because of the two, hence the crying. And then there is you worrying about you. Give him some space to clear his head and put everything back into order. He's not avoiding you because he cried in front of you, he's taking time out to be in his cave. Leave him there. He will bounce back shortly. And when he does, just don't talk about it unless he does.

He needs time to process. Guys don't like to cry in front of girls for some reason. Seeing as he was both exhausted and sad that his friend died... I'd give him some space. He needs to process what happened and grieve and sometimes the girlfriend doesn't help that process.

Just send him a quick message saying you're there for him if he needs you and leave it at that. He'll come around.

He might need time by himself to process the death of his friend. You could send him a text saying that you're there for him whenever he wants to talk or just wants company.
