How should I tell my boyfriend that I have IBS?

If you don't know, IBS is irritable bowel syndrome. It can cause either diarrhea, constipation, or both. I get both. I was diagnosed with IBS in 6th grade. I guess I was about 11, and I'm 19 now. I never felt the need to tell anyone I dated in high school because I never felt like it would come up. I went out like once a week with the guys I dated in high school and it was never very serious. I've been spending a ton of time with my boyfriend both out and at his house. I feel like it's bound to come up at some point. I can't just abruptly go home when it hits and it doesn't just go away when it happens. My flare ups can last an hour or two. My best friends don't even know that I have it. My family and coworkers are the only people who know. My coworkers only know because it has come up at work before... otherwise I wouldn't have told them. I like to pretend like it isn't embarrassing for me to have it because it isn't something I can help, but it is a little embarrassing to think about having to tell my boyfriend that sometimes I have horrible diarrhea and feel like shit. Literally.

He is so amazing that I know it won't bother him. I'm not worried about him being freaked out or grossed out or anything. I mean, if it does bother him, I would like to know so we can discontinue the relationship since it is something I can't do anything about. But that isn't even what I'm worried about. I just can't get over my embarrassment about it.

Can anyone give me any advice?
