Do you think daddy issues and mommy issues are real?

I'm curious to know both guys and girls thoughts on the so called "daddy issues" and "mommy issues". And if you believe it's true, do you think is affects both genders attitude and romantic approach when dating? Does it affect a person's personality in general? Or do you think it's a made up excuse people use when they can't explain why do behave a certain way?

I think that the the relationships people have with their parents definitely effect their relationships later on in life. Their parents have set a bad example, the parent wasn’t there for the child and as a result of that the child grows up wanting what their parent wouldn’t give them.

Eh probably. For me though it was never that either parent let me down. Just that they were very protective of me since I was the first daughter. My younger sisters are much more independent / successful than me

Do you mind explaining your answer more. I feel like my parents are very protective of me as well, and I'm their first and only daughter out of four boys. Come to think of it, I reject dating because I always think of how my parents would feel and react. Do you do the same?

My 1st youngest sister is 17, 1 year younger for reference.

For me, they coddled me and didn't want me to ever struggle, so they were the "shes ready when she's ready" type. By the time my sister was born i think they kind of realized it was a mistake but kept that thought going for me. I don't know why. But it led to all of my developmental milestones being very behind, walking, talking, potty training, learning etc. while my sister excelled.

My sister is now very independant and in a happy long term relationship. I;ve never even kissed a guy. I am honestly way more introverted and needy. I feel like my parents love is more important

I think daddy issues are real but I've never heard of mommy issues lmao. Girl's are usually weaker emotionally then guys so they are more likely to attempt to fill voids and act out for attention or to feel a certain type of way when it comes to filling that void.
