My boyfriend took me shopping for my birthday present and I don't know how to feel about it?

Me and my boyfriend have been together for 7-8 months now and he decided to take me shopping for my birthday last minute two days before my birthday. I tried to tell him multiple times that I don't care about money, that I didn't want anything that would be thrown away and that I wanted something from the heart, something that showed his feelings. I even told him many times that he could make me a card and I would be made up. Anyway he took me shopping and honestly I felt horrible about it, I felt uncomfortable and bad because not use to this treatment. Most of all I feel like he has gotten me to do the thinking and the work for him instead of him doing it himself. Don't get me wrong I am so grateful for what he did and I'm made up, it's just that this isn't me. I feel so conflicted and I feel like a horrible bitch, I love him so much and I care about him a lot, I really am grateful. When it came to my birthday he only gave me a card on the day when he told me previously that he was also giving me a present from the heart. What should I do?

Not everybody can make something with their bare hands and a card is not good enough, is that what you do on Christmas day just hand a Christmas card and that's it? You're supposed to get birthday presents and Christmas presents and if you don't get a birthday present at least he should take you somewhere and do something. Just be appreciative that is from the heart

He's clever. Better you buy what you want then getting a gift you don't like. I'd prefer this over most gifts.
