I'm in this boat with a few people since I met them when they were, like, 13ish? And now they're in their 20s as I'm nearing my 30th bday.
Though I find them pretty and attractive, I could never bring myself to be romantically involved.
One, they recognize me as a karate instructor and a mentor figure (I doubt I'm mentor material in anything other than kata, tho). It would be so wrong of me to shatter that image.
Two, I still see them as kids. When I look at them, I still see my young students, full of promise and enthusiasm.
I want to protect them, not be involved with them.
I do hope maybe I can go for drinks with them and hang out, but as friends and peers. It helps that they're now starting to be my equals in rank in the club, too, so it's more a friendship than an instructor-student dynamic.
At first I thought you meant someone you met as children and I was like sure, why not? My husband and I technically met when we were 6 and 8 and then again when we were 12 and 14 and we got married.
But then I reread it and... nope! If I was an adult and they were a child then nope! Creepy!
One thing most haven't considered is how old she would make you feel.
I know a girl that I knew since she was born. I was like 9 back then but basically during my teenage years she was a little a kid (an annoying little kid) but now she's the neenager and I'm in my early 20's and whenever I see her it feels weird, like I knew this girl when she was in diapers and now she has Instagram and people are commenting hearts on her posts and frankly if she keeps going down the same growth road by 18 she's gonna be a total hottie. But I still whenever I see her all I can think about is "wow I'm getting old" so I don't know if I could date someone like that it's just not my style
The Time Travellers Wife, that movie I don't know what happened did he meet his wife first and then accidently went to her childhood or he saw her in childhood then he followed her to future it was cringy movie never the less.
It isn't unheard of people doing that, but its an offer if a girl likes an older men, but if the older guy does that would be creepy so it's acceptable if the girl approaches mostly that's all I can say I guess

That's a very mind blowing question This would be dependant on Maturerity and my relationship with the parents I have always gone out with people much younger than I But I hadn't known the parents Ooops I tell a lie I had a friend whose Step Daughter who started a crush on me I'd take the dog out she said I'm come although I tried hard to make excuses but the only thing I could do when we were on our own I had a mature soft chat explaining the awkward situation for me How I loved her as a sort of Uncle and she understood Stil remained with her crushing on me Finally she got a boyfriend who she married I'm to old to date now but circumstances different and I met a younger woman I don't know 😇
Oh I voted yes but didn't read the rest... Umm, I don't think so actually... I look at people in their early 20's as kids and can't see them in any other ways... I also have a 13 year old daughter so imagining her friends of age and dating them is just WEIRD lol
I tried, I asked her out, she said I was like a brother, then ghosted me (found out she ghosted me because she got in a relationship), started texting me again (after they broke up), didn't even attempt to try again, I knew my place in her life. She got mad that I didn't just go back to being bestfriends with her after she ghosted me, I stopped messaging her first, she still texts every once in a while, I reply but I don't make it a priority to reply right away especially since all she ever really texts about is relationship stuff seeking advice, I've told her I've never dated, never had a relationship so what makes her think I've got advice to give? Point is I tried to dating a childhood bestfriend and our friendship is now a bunch of fuckery

What really happens is you don’t see them for many years & when you see them again they’re at some random older age like 20s. It’s not like you’d be watching the clock for them to turn 18.
Yeah I almost did once. I had a crush on a guy I’ve know since I was like 8 years is. We finally started flirting in high school, but he started coming on to me way too sexy. It was like one day he suddenly noticed that I was an attractive girl and then he started constantly trying to grab my ass and make sexual comments. It was just uncomfortable how sudden it was. So I lost interest.

Depends. If I grew up with them, and had them as a friend for that time, then it might be possible, given the circumstances and feeling would be right.

Only if it were a totally serious, marriage potential sort of thing. The one example I can think f like this in my life was someone I didn't know very well, whom I heard a few months ago was getting married when I saw her dad in a Zoom chat. She was uncomfortable when I complimented her photographs when she was in college even though I'm only about ten years her senior. I stopped doing it, of course.

As I got older I did go out with my best friend, she was amazing!! She still is amazing. She is the best. Though, I do miss her.

I don't think so, I've always seen them as brothers. And I have noticed that when I met someone from their childhood time I tend to see them still babyish, subconsciously even when the time has passed.

If it was someone my own age, yes. Someone younger - absolutely not. Partly because it would be creepy, weird and disgusting to date someone you’ve seen grow up and partly because I don’t date younger men. (I don’t date much older men either).
If you were and adult while they were a kid, no way. If we were both children and he had never bullied me, yeah.
So in the context of the film, yeah weird, and the film explored that too a lesser degree. He was 20 years older than her as a child.
In real life, with you both children and then adults, no, it's fine.
