Boyfriend is controlling and angry?

Question

So he's 40 by the way and I'm just venting because I may be leaving him. So whenever we watch a movie or a show he has to pick it out. I sit there and watch all the shows he watches because he HAS to choose and I'm respectful. Now I only get to pick the movie or show once every blue moon.
But everytime I do he picks the movie apart the whole way through, or rants about the characters and how stupid it is.
He only watches marvel, star wars or vikings that's it. He hates thriller, horror, suspense, and drama. I literally couldn't even watch it because he was angry the whole hour and going off on a tangent about how it wouldn't happen. Who cares?
Then last night he started another marvel show and I watched it and I actually liked it. I went on my phone to check a message and he got pissed and said oh your too busy watching your phone then the show, so you don't know what happened. I literally watched the entire episode and checked my phone during the credits... then he got pissed because I wanted to go play games because he once again ruined the night. Then he got kind of violent and threw a fit. Is he controlling or abusive?

He is definitely controlling. Weather someone physical controls or emotionally it's the same thing. Besides being controlling it's actually abusive as well. Generally abusive relationships only get worse and worse as you go along.
