What does it mean when a guy says “Maybe we shouldn’t be together”?

I’ve recently said something that hurt his feelings but I didn’t intend to (We’re not together by the way) but he have been wanting to date me but haven’t asked me out yet because of stress he’s been dealing with around his friends putting pressure on him, so we’re taking things slow.

He know I like him back, but why would he say we shouldn’t be together? I don’t wanna ask him yet because I’m giving him space for awhile.

Believe what he says the first time. He doesn’t want a relationship with you at this point in time. Maybe he will change his mind later, but at this point in time, keep your options open, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. There’s plenty of great guys out there, guys who want to persue you and have a relationship with you. In the meantime give him space. Don’t message him at all, the ball is in his court now. If he decides to get back with you, great, if not, oh well, his loss, not yours.

He doesn’t want to pursue a relationship with you. I’d definitely continue to give him space he may change his mind, he may not, but make sure the ball is in his court and by that I mean don’t contact him and don’t try to force a relationship with him. If he ends up wanting to be with you he will tell you. Bugging him will only make the situation worse.

He found something that he believes will probably make your relationship run sour in the long run. Let him figure things out, but don't be so disheartened if he never asks you out. Perhaps that is for the best.

I'm guessing he feels the timing is just off for a relationship to happen at this time.
