How Would You Feel If Your Partner Wanted Friends Of The Opposite Sex?

I want you ladies and gentlemen to post your own opinions in the comments; however, I am speaking about my own experience as a man.

I am 31 years old, and all of my friends are men. Do I talk to women on a casual level? YES. However, I DO NOT go out of my way to have female friends. When I used to have female friends, there was always light flirting and banter going on and then they would want to take it up to the next level eventually.

Also, when you are in a relationship with someone or MARRIED, I just don't feel it's a good idea to entertain having friendships with people of the opposite sex.

These days, I find it alarming that women want male friends so bad. In all of the recent relationships I have been in, I had to end it, because the women I was talking would discuss wanting to have male friends and that "healthy people" have friendships of both sexes.

My last relationship ended, because my ex had male friends. Her male friends knew she was in a relationship, but they would call her or text her at 2am and they would try to invite her over at random hours to hang out.

Personally, I feel like if you are in a committed relationship with someone, you shouldn't be entertaining people of the opposite sex.

I'll be honest and maybe it's just me but I haven't had a friend of the opposite sex where we either slept together or planned on having sex. I'm a flirtatious guy and I love women. That being said I can't penalize my partner because I have no self control. When I'm in a relationship it doesn't mean I cheat. You have to make some bad decisions to end up there. For one you have to be somewhere alone with that person. I guess you don't have to be alone necessarily 😏. At some point you would have to take your clothes off. So I just don't put myself in a situation where it these things are even remotely possible.

Yeah trust then its ok some women can get jealous i got quit annoyed when my ex did it the only reason why was because one of certain friends that was a girl he was taking out more and spending more time with than me and thats how i knew he was cheating didn't want to beileve it but he gave it away to easy with loads of things i had guy friends to but never cheated in my life because at first i was feeling loved nd then when i told him he was being to suspisious and was cheating he didn't like that knew what he was upto and blaned everything on me its bad it still hurts how much of my time and love for him to try nd make things and all i got was ghosted abused and used so its ok as long as there's trust and no hanky panky and lers u meet them to because if he doesn't they are not a friend they are basically a 2nd girlfriend its so bad😥😥😥

Well my best friend is a male and if I don't get accepted for that then I am not staying in that relationship. I won't break my strong, serious, close and only friendship for staying in a relationship with someone who can't trust me. I won't give in to a relationship without trust. Like I won't start a relationship without that. And if I trust my partner then why will I have problems if he have female friends? I won't trust his female friends though if they are extra flirty or something like that however it won't bother me as I know that my partner will stay with me.

Depends on the person. But honestly, being close friends with the opposite sex is impossible. Because close friends means trust, which means heartfelt feelings, reciprocated actions, dependence on one another, and open sharing of personal thoughts. I had a close female "friend". Ended up having an affair with her...

There should definitely be boundaries with friends of the opposite sex. People who are in relationships shouldn’t constantly spend time with friends of the opposite sex in my opinion.


I would be okay with my future boyfriend or husband having friends of the opposite gender and I would even attempt to be friends with one of them or some of them.


I honestly wouldn’t want to be with a man who wouldn’t let me have opposite gender friends or who gives me an ultimatum (making me choose between him and my friends).

I mostly agree with you.

The only place we might disagree is "people shouldn't constantly spend time with the friends of the opposite sex" I have a female friend who I grew up with and I do spend a lot of time with her. We have always been friends but we have gotten much closer these past couple of years. However, there has to be a balance. I shouldn't be spending more time with her than I do with my girlfriend.

My girlfriend is a grown woman and it is not up to me to decide who she can and can't be friends with. She has a few male friends who I actually like. I trust her and am confident she would put an end to should any of male friends try anything innapropiate.

I see. I actually do have a preference for friends of the opposite sex but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be friends with people of my own sex. I also tend to open up to guys more easily. I wouldn't say I specifically seek out friends of the opposite gender. I just happen to be friends with who I'm friends with.

My boyfriends best friend from childhood is a woman. We all hang out together when she's in town, she's slept in my living room. He has other lady friends he met through university, we get invited to their parties. Sometimes my boyfriend will catch up with them over lunch or a coffee. The ones he hangs out with the most are the partners of his friends who he has through them become friends with. I don't see anything wrong with it at all, as long as they don't make you feel uncomfortable about their friendship.

I'd be happy if my partner had friends of the opposite sex, given it was healthy and respectful and I'd met them before and he was upfront he was in a relationship with me. I don't have a partner atm but I would be fine with it if I had a partner who did.

You're right about them wanting more. His female friends always end up acting like desperate damsels in distress or they turn into bitter angry women. Either way, the friendships always end.

Neither of us have had 2am phone calls asking for our company. That would cross the line for sure.

If they wanted male friends they ain’t gonna be my partner in a month or so because they’re bound to cheat. Women don’t understand that it’s possible to cheat both intentionally and unintentionally. Watching a movie alone with a male friend is never just a movie. When you go to watch fireworks with a “friend” but not your boyfriend, they’re not just a friend but potential for more. Why would I want to stay in something that’s only going to be temporary? I’d rather be single and so I am.

If they want NEW opposite gender friends, they are a cheater, or they are just with you for now until they can find someone else they like more. You are a place holder in that circumstance. I would not stay with someone that was making NEW opposite gender friends.

Before I got married I had many female friends. My wife is very jealous and did not like it. She used to make fun of my friends and always got angry when I would see them. There was nothing sexual ever going on. I had kids and I worked a lot and I just sort of let these friendships lapse.

I'm a pretty firm believer that at some point, hanging out with opposite sex friends will lead to feelings from one or the other. The more time you spend with someone the closer you get. Unwillingly or not. The amount of people who have self control when it comes to that is very slim

Friendship and relationship are two different things every relationship have limits. And things going good when limits nit brake. . well In your case when your girlfriend friend call her to join party after 2 that s bad thing this the responsibility of your girlfriend don't give much importance

I have female friends and those relationships are older than the one I have with my wife. I won't kick them out of my life. In fact, some of my best friends are females, like a girl I've known for over 20 years, my sister-in-law, etc. My wife also has male friends and I don't have problems with that because I believe in her. If you have trust issues, maybe you should talk to a psychologist.

I think it’s okay to have friends of the opposite gender while in a relationship if you know who the person is. They should talk about or bring up this person before you become exclusive. That way you know like they were friends before you guys were a couple and that’s all it is. If your partner suddenly has a whole group of guy friends that you’ve never heard of, that’s when I feel it’s sketchy.
