Have or can you continue a relationship after a boyfriend throws a drink in your face?

I’m asking this question because a while ago I went on a trip with my boyfriend to Las Vegas, we had both been drinking and he got tired and was telling me he just wanted to rest for a bit so we parked in a parking garage to one of the hotels, I waited a while and realized he was going to end up staying the night if he slept any longer and I am not the kind of girl that find sleeping in a car acceptable, so I tried to wake him up verbally then patting him on the back, then by giving him a smack on the side but I wasn’t trying to hurt him He said stop that hurts but by his tone I thought he was joking then I did it again, just to clarify when I did this I wasn’t even upset or annoyed I was simply just trying to get him up and was confused if anything why he wouldn’t just want to go to the hotel if he was that tired, after that he got up and grabbed a can of margarita that was open in the car and threw the margarita in my face, I was in shock and started crying he apologized but then said I hurt him and he didn’t think the can just had a little bit of alcohol in it. He has never done anything like this before or after this one situation.

by the way I didn’t hit him hard that’s y I was confused and also thought he was joking, because there was no possible way it was hard enough to hurt. He tried to say it was then later changed it to he had a tender spot, sometimes I just think waking up put him in a bad mood and he wanted to sleep in the parking lot.
