Is it right to dump a boyfriend that spends too much money and has debts?

My friend just dumped her boyfriend. He's been spending it all on expensive places and things. She discussed her concern about it with him several months ago, the bills and her worries about how they would provide for a child in the future if he continues spending money like crazy. He really thought she was complaining too much and that she should be happy he's showering her with great gifts.

He kept inquiring debt and she dumped him. Is it right to dump a boyfriend for that reason? If he's careless about his money, spends it on expensive things and acquiring overdue bills?

His background and perhaps reason he spends money like crazy:
He used to be poor for a long time (his parents were poor) but he was smart, got a scholarship and is a professional engineer. However, he was too excited about the amount of money he was making that he got carried away. He never knew what it was like to earn more money and be wealthy. He didn't know how to manage it all.

Having debt is not a reason to end a relationship. How that person views debt and money absolutely is. Money fights are one of the top causes of divorce in America today so you best be on the same page about it.

Its reasonable to breakup with someone who is being very irresponsible with money and isn't looking to change. How could you possibly stay with someone and potentially start a family with them knowing they can't handle their money properly. No point in staying in the relationship if he's not going to change his spending habits especially if its to a high level, collecting all kinds of debts.

yeah the dude got carried away. He has never lived a wealthy life before (he grew up being poor) and didn't know what to do with all that money. Needless to say I'm actually on her side. She was trying to reason with him and wasn't happy about his spendings.

Well she was actually trying to advice him on saving money. She didn't want expensive gifts. Neither extremes sound health. A total cheapskate that always goes dutch and won't spent even a dime obviously is selfish but someone that spends money for the sake of it on expensive things isn't good either. If you're being careless about your money and accumulating overdue bills then wouldn't that be an issue too?

Dating someone pretty much tells you how the person is going to be if things get more serious. Both were dating with the purpose of having kids in the future and from the way he's careless with money she already must have evaluated the situation.
Or do you really think people are going to remain at childless eternal dating stage? The dating stage is pretty much like your job interview and things progress base on how it goes.

Dating is pretty much a trial period with a person to see if there is any potential for a future with them. Otherwise what's the use of dating for fun, dating to date?
