We both did a bunch of stupid things in our relationship. I decided that it was enough with this ''getting back at you'' cycle.

Yes I started but he won't stop with it. I got tired of endlessly owning up to my past mistakes. Then he does the same and expects me to just forget about it. I don't apologize anymore.

I think I'm going to end it soon. Do 2nd chances in the relationship barely work out? Is it really a 2nd chance if the person is going to rub it in your face and then do the same thing to get back at you?

I'm considering ending it for good and start fresh with someone new later on.

I guess it depends what the mistakes were.

Relationships can survive all kinds of problems usually with the exception of physical abuse and cheating. Those are really hard on some people and can ruin things.

yeah it wasn't cheating nor abuse.
It was heavy drinking in the past, being a kleptomaniac (stealing small things for the sake of it) and lying too much for attention (I had a habit of making up elaborated things) and well the relationship got rocky as a result.

Wow, that's kind of a unique situation. It's obviously very difficult to trust a heavy drinker, or somebody who lies and steals from you. However, those do seem like issues that can be resolved by showing your partner that you've changed, and that you understand how destructive that behaviour is. Trust is earned so it may take a long time for them to have faith in you again, but the part about your partner doing the same things back to you seems very toxic. I'm not sure how much hope there is when both partners are doing destructive things.

I think I'm about to call it quits. I want to start fresh with someone new and this time have goals in mind. This relationship is getting toxic and isn't going anywhere. I'm not into drama anymore. I want peace at this point.
