How do I turn him down?

Question

So I have this friend that I work with and we aren't super super close but I'd definitely call us friends. recently it seems he has feelings for me but I don't feel the same way and (as bad as it sounds) I just don't have any interest in being in a relationship with him. He's asked me to his school prom and I said yes cause I din't want to be rude and thought we would only be going as friends. My friends at work heard that he was apparently going to ask me out and today he asked me over text when I'm free next. I DO NOT want to hang out with him cause I don't want to give him the wrong idea but I need to give him a response. Girls what have you said that worked in this situation and Guys if you were him what would you prefer my response to be if I was going to say no?

You should have said no. Because you certainly don’t have to do stuff. It honestly makes it worse and I’m not saying you’re a bad person by any means. I’m sure you have a good heart.

But. See. Now you have made plans with someone that either you’re going to break off and now he might not have time to find someone else.

You can say no and say that you changed your mind and think maybe he should find someone else.

That or my advice would be. Be persistent unless something happens out of your control like you get sick or there is a major snow storm or a family emergency. Something like that.

I would say. Since you have made plans. Go with him but be clear it’s just as friends and try to make the best out of it.

Be clear you aren’t into him. But since you’re his friend. Maybe try and set him up with someone

As I said before. If you committed to going. Then go. Unless something happens.

Don’t lie to him and say you’re busy if you’re not. It’s perfectly okay to say you’re not interested. Then you won’t string him along or hurt him worse when he finds you’re really not busy or keep asking you when you’re free. Just be nice about it.

Wish you the best. I know. It’s hard to say no sometimes. But learn from it and say no next time.
