Does my ex best friend/enemy like me?

I used to be friends with 2 boys who are brothers both younger than me, but i was closer with the older one more than the younger one. the older one was overprotective n people in school started assuming that he liked me or we were dating, but i was seeing some guy from a different school then n he knew about it since he was my friend n we were close but i don't think he liked or trusted the guy since he told me that he would beat up the the guy if he broke my heart. He even introduced me to his parents n one day when it was raining he asked his parents to drop me in town, i used to sit on his lap in class n just talk n he would borrow me his hoody. One time we were walking around town n he held my hand but he was wearing a hoody n my hand was inside his pocket so he held it I didn't know what to think bout it so i let it slide. the rumors about us dating were starting to get on my nerves so I told them that we weren't dating n he said that i shouldn't care about what others think since we both know that we are not dating n shit so I forgot about it, until some guy came to my school n i had a crush on the guy so i was with him n i stopped spending time with him, but he stopped talking to me n i asked him why n he was like his not mad at me he just wants to teach me a lesson, then one of my classmates told me that he likes me n i said his not my type since his short n i don't date short guys n his brother was there so i guess he told him n ever since then his been treating me like shit but sometimes I'd find him looking at me n i don't know what to think cuz now his a different person n he calls me names, but these past few days his been kind he doesn't tease me anymore n I'd find him looking at me, i don't know what to do cuz i don't want him to embarrass me if i try talking to him, so what do u think i should do?
