Why do some people blame only the person their partner cheated with?

This is something quite common where I live. Many husbands and wives won't blame their cheating spouse at all, but rather heap their fury on the other person - if it's a woman, she's labeled as a "homewrecker" and a "wh*re" that tempted the husband; if it's a man he'll be hunted as "bastard" who dared to "defile" a married woman.

Those people usually tend to publicly call their cheating spouse a "victim" of the other person's guile, although some will at least berate their partner in private.

Blaming the other person means you don't need to question why your spouse cheated on you.

I've always thought of it as a coping mechanism to protect oneself from the realization that their partner is not faithful and perhaps was drifting apart from them.
