Is it rude to ask someone whether they are single or not?

I want to ask a beautiful lass that question, but I fear it might be rude where I live, Tenerife. I have been asked that question by another beautiful lass before She asked me out.

My dad was chatting with an upper elite at work one day and as a point of conversation asked her if she likes to vacation with her husband and when the lady left the room, his Chinese friend said to my dad in Chinese to avoid these types of topics at work cause you don't know the orientation of your co worker. Apparently the girl my dad talked to about her husband was a lesbian and my dad had no idea. Now it's different when you want a wife or date because you need to know the status of the person. I know guys that send their female friends to ask girls they like about their relationship status. That way there is no embarrassment if she is in a relationship, she never finds out you were interested in her.

I'm biologically Chinese but I've lived in Canada ever since I was 4 years old and my English is way better than my Chinese. My dad speaks English with his bosses at work but his work friends are Chinese because he prefers to speak his native tongue and befriending white people is difficult for somebody who can't speak English well.

I can befriend White people who can’t speak English. Just talk to them in Russian, Spanish, or Deutsch! I even talked to a man who only spoke Jugoslavian, and I understood much of what he said.

I can remember a time in the 90s when that kind of cultural exchange was an exciting prospect. These days it is terrifying. We have a lot of people immigrating to my remote community, but as a white dude, I feel like I am just presumed to be a threat. Which is sad, because more than one Asian culture is very intriguing to me and of course, being Asian has little to do with being intereating or attractive. Im an orphan, I dont think Id do too well trying to get to know anyone from Asia with a family lol.

Ask away. Make it subtle if you don't want to somehow "be rude" (it's not rude).

Do not fear rejection. The worse that can happen is her saying no. But who cares. I've never heard anyone being struck by lightning after being told no.

Mostly upper management types who want a contact list online. I just out together where Tenerife, wow, that must be badass. Would love to visit Azores Someday. I am in Yukon, in the arctic, I would say just straight up ask. You are on an island where people come to loosen up, even if its work I would imagine. Can I ask you something? What is a rhing from Tenerife that is only from Tenerife? I love islands, hope to die on one man.
