Should I never trust my friend again for lying to me about having a girlfriend?

A few years ago there was a girl (Riley) he knew that he wanted to date, apparently she gave excuses why she didn’t want to hang out with him and eventually rejected him.

Later on he told me he was dating a new girl (Maria) he knew at work. He showed me a picture of her for proof and I saw her one time at his work which proved the photo wasn’t taken from the internet.

Every time I asked about her he didn’t have much to say about her but instead continued to complain about Riley.
(He has complained about Riley for over four years now.)
Eventually I asked why he never talks about Maria and admitted he made up a lie about dating her, and the picture was taken when she wasn’t looking.

there's more to this story womethings being left out but he's obsessing over something he can't have it sounds like with the complaining. All i know is what youve said. Soes she jnow about it? Id not them you should tell her about it4 yrsvof complaining im in law enforcement and know where this could lead to whatsvthis guy like? Whats his mental state his social life like whats he do whem he's not working does he even look for any ither woman have you ever seen him with any if you think he could be a danger to her than he will be and she needs to know abd he needs to see a shrink im gonna leave it at that but keep your eyes open. Honestly, there are worst things one could lie about it. Where I live anyways, EVERYONE lies and I've lied too, so it's not really a big deal. I think lying about relationships is common. I think the motive for lying is more important than the lie itself. I've lied that I've had sex and they forgave me instantly and didn't even care, honestly. Everybody lies
