Was I right do have done this?

Just under 7 years go, mom was on her death bed. She would die a day or 3 later. She'd become so weak she couldn't swallow or even talk above a whisper. She couldn't even lift up the t. v. remote!!
My nephew was in his mid 20's and had a job and a girlfriend that got him addicted to heroine. Every day, almost, he was at the house to bum, `scuse me, BORROW (but NEVER pay back) $20 from mom for gas (one time, he wanted $50 to take his girlfriend to the movies and buy her a present). After a few months of this DAILY need of $20, we discovered that it WASN'T for gas, at all, it was for his heroine habit!!
So, a day or so before mom died, he came up to the house (he and my ex-sister lived 2 miles away from us) and stood there in the living room near her hospital bed and asked her for ANOTHER $20 for gas! She couldn't talk and, instead of realizing this begging session was a bad idea at this point, he told her, "I know you can't speak well right now so, I'll just stand her and wait for your answer.". I got so FUCKING PISSED at him for this, I physically threw him out of the fucking house!!
Seconds later, he called us up and left a long and VERY nasty message on the phone!! I couldn't hear it while he was making it because it was in the kitchen and I was busy helping mom but, as soon as I heard it was him yelling, swearing and carrying on, I went into the kitchen, picked up the phone and immediately hung it up to end the message and then deleted the message!
Motherfucker couldn't even make to the fucking funeral!!!
So, was I in the wrong for kicking him out?
(About a year later it was reported in the local newspaper on the front page of the local section that he'd just been arrested after running up a tree to get away from the police who were after him for more graffiti!! He's got plenty of money for spray paint but needs gas money?)

Not that it matters much but, the funeral was only 2 blocks from the house so, it's NOT like he couldn't make it there!!
Most likely, it was probably good that he DIDN'T show!! It's bad enough that his mother and my other ex-sister were there stirring shit!!

Wait til he's out and about, one round from a gun you can lose and when the blood shows smack it'll be a drug deal gone wrong or a dealer he'd refused to pay sending a message to other junkies

Exactly! But, he had everything handed to him and his mother was too busy going to parties and "having a life" to teach him anything when he was little! She would either leave him with mom or just let him stay home by himself
When he got older, every time she'd get a new car, she'd let him use it and he'd wreck it!! Instead of making him take the responsibility for getting it fixed or replaced, she'd get a new one and, within a month or two, he'd wreck that one, too!!
When my brother died, mom gave his car to him and, within a few months, trashed it!! My brother took good care of that car! Last I saw my nephew with it, he was pissed that the door wouldn't close the right way so, he had a hissy fit and kicked it backwards!!

Besides, I was the ONLY one taking care of her and, if something happened to me in the fight, I might've not been able to help her anymore.. I'd just gotten over severe back pain that had me laid up for at least a week.
