My girlfriend may get sent back to her country and I am scared and not sure what to do?

I’ve been seeing her for 8-9 months and officially dating for 6. I love her and this is by far the happiest relationship I have ever been in. She is part of a program that has to move around a lot. I knew this going in and we were both under the impression she had a lot more choice in where she goes. She asked me a while ago if I was willing to move across the country for her and I said I would.

We found out recently that she may actually just get sent back to her home country, and she would lose her Visa and not be able to come back unless she got another sponsored visa or a tourist visa. Her supervisors barely gave her any notice either, she may have to move in less than two months. She is trying everything she can to stay but it’s not looking good. We are both very scared. I do not want to break up, and I am willing to do long distance, but being in another country without the freedom to travel will be very difficult. I wouldn’t be able to move with her for a number of reasons, and I am not ready to marry her. Although she is the one person I have legitimately thought about marriage with. Have any of you ever dated someone while living in another country? The only positive is that if she moves, she would just be one time zone over, so it wouldn’t be a big difference time wise. I am just very scared and don’t want to lose the best thing in my life because of this.

Hey bro, it's totally normal to be scared in this situation. It's also totally normal to feel sad and confused. You love this girl and don't want to lose her, and now you're faced with the possibility that she could be sent back to her home country and you won't be able to see her. It's important to remember to stay calm and remember that you don't have to decide anything right now. Take some time to reflect and think about what you really want to do. Talk to your girlfriend and see how she's feeling and what she's thinking also.

If you are in the United States just have her overstay her visa, it's not like the Biden administration will deport anybody. Have you heard about the ridiculous numbers of people flooding the border that they won't do anything about? If you are in a country that actually enforces their immigration laws then I would say you have a problem.

I have and I would if I had more time and would be able to get things in order. I just signed a new lease, and the country she is possibly going to, I don’t think there is much opportunity for me career wise and would have to rely on me working remote, which I can’t guarantee. But I just can’t swing it in 2 months. And there is always the chance it could all work out and she doesn’t have to leave. The issue is, we just don’t know. I am hoping we can do long distance and hopefully it works out until I can either get to her or she can get to me, or find a mutual other country that works for both. It’s just this is all so sudden and a surprise for us both, without much time. I separately have a lot going on in my life that makes it difficult to juggle it all

It is far too sudden of a move to a country that doesn’t have good prospects for the career I am in. Moving to anywhere in my country I could do, with time. But it’s just far too sudden, and too much of a change all at once and it’s scaring me. This wasn’t even something I thought was a possibility and it’s not a choice she is making either. And there is a chance she may not even have to move

If it was something planned, I could probably get something together, but this is sudden for her and she has moved to multiple countries through this program, but she has always had a choice. And she told me she loves the city we live in and does not want to move, and I thought that meant she had a lot more choice in the matter
