My husband wants some of my tax rebate, is he using me?

Anonymous

Me and him married almost two years ago primarily because I moved countries and he needed a way to stay living with me. When we lived together he was somewhat financially dependant on me. At first this was by a small amount but later he quit his job so he became fully financially dependant on me. Once he quit his job he didn't pick up any house chores and pretty much just gamed all the time, this soon caused friction in our relationship and I decided to separate. We separated physically but stayed married as divorce proceedings can cost a lot. In the course of our separation I incidentally found out that I can get a larger tax rebate for being married as any expenses double where the person sending the tax return is married (so I can expense more for fuel or home office, car insurance etc.). I will need to file a tax return every year to get this and it is based on my own tax return (not his), so the rebate is on my salary and goes to me.

Recently me and him have started seeing each other again (very early days so seeing where it will go) but we got into a disagreement because he keeps mentioning that he should be entitled to some of my tax rebate. I disagree because the rebate is mine on my salary, if he did his own tax return he would get a separate rebate on his salary. I only agreed that perhaps I could pay him an admin fee for any paper work he sends me (e. g. him having me on his car insurance even after separation) but he wants more. Am I being selfish or is he trying to use me?

P. S. yes I have a prenup.
