How far away is your long distance boyfriend/girlfriend?

Mines is just a city away thankfully but it feels like we're so far with how little we see each other. It's so frustrating. It's like I get only a taste of him and then he's gone for weeks or months on end.

We used to live 12,000km away from each other, so 15-hour time difference.



But, I moved to her city, so now we can see each other much easier.


But because if visa restrictions I need to fly in and out of the city every 30 days.


LDR is tough—I don’t know anyone who has struggled through LDR challenges like my fiancée and I have.


It’s worth it for the right relationship though. If your relationship is so special that you’re willing to put in the extra work, it can be rewarding.


If you’re not sure about getting married though, I wouldn’t bother.


Committing to an LDR is a serious commitment if you want it to thrive and not die, like so many LDR relationships.

Thank you for sharing! We are willing to put in the work and move closer together. We plan on traveling together in a year or two. But first we plan on living together before traveling together. And see how that works out.

i tried that once. it wasn't really a relationship tho. never again. broken hearted honestly. don't know how people do it. it's really iffy too... a lot of the time, i don't see the point. i'm not knocking you, as i have no idea what your situation is like. i'm assuming you have plans for the near future. and if not, then that comes back to the what's the point again.

She lived 1500 miles away. We had long distance relationship for over 3 years. This was before email or Zoom. We wrote letters.

That's so romantic. I wrote a letter to my boyfriend once but he's not really much of a writer. Wish he was. I would much rather communicate sometimes through letters.

It was nice to find a letter from her in my mailbox but lets face it, it was the distance that really killed the relationship. After 3 years I finally called her on the phone late one Saturday night and broke up with her. It was a hard thing to do,

I don't know why anyone attempts a LDR as it is doomed to fail. A huge part of a relationship is the proximity, familiarity, time together, and shared experiences. A LDR allows for none of these.

In my situation, it just happened. I didn't plan for it but we just kind of got together through me visiting him and having a drunken fun night together and we both couldn't let it stop there. We also were friends for many years and developed feelings over time. Well I developed feelings over time, he had feelings for me since college. I should have been with him when the distance was a lot closer because by now we probably would have been married. It's kind of my fault how things have gone. The ldr didn't really have to transpire if I had been with him in college.

@Simslover92. So one of you needs to move close to the other, unless this is just a "we fuck when we see each other" thing. A part of commitment is sacrifice. in my opinion a LDR is not a real relationship.

You're certainly right. One of us does have to make the sacrifice and move close. I plan on making the sacrifice soon. I am a Librarian so I can pretty much go wherever.
