How did you realize you were in love for the first time?

I grew up very independent since childhood and promised myself I would never fall in love as it sounded very scary. And I always successfully avoided falling in love.

At some point, even though I tried my best to avoid falling in love at the beginning stages of dating, I acted distant and just like a very bad partner, my partner was patient and never stopped trying to understand and love me the way I was. I was thinking I didn’t love him and I was annoyed that he stayed with me even though I tried my best to push him away.

At some point, I had a short trip to Kuala Lumpur, I had to renew my visa. In the airplane there was a huge turbulence and some people cried and screamed, I am not the one to panic, I just thought for a moment if something happened to me, my biggest regret would be dying without telling him how much I loved him and without thanking him for being the best partner I could imagine. The realization that I was in love made my eyes teary. When I got back to Shanghai airport with my new visa, there he was waiting for me, I run to him, hugged him and told him I loved him. It was refreshing because that realization lead me to become a better person. Or maybe I was always like that, I just didn’t know it before. It was like finding my real self.

It happened that time I talked to this girl who was in my university. I told her straight that I liked her. And all the boys laughed and said if I had to tell her I should have softened the blow. The story went something like this, she told me she is getting engaged (which never happened) and I went home and was a bit upset and I told my father looking down 😔 that there is a girl I like and what should I do. He said to tell her that and not him. So, I do the unthinkable. My repute became known as that of the direct, no nonsense man. Some called my the man with balls of sheep 🐑🤣🤣🤣.

Well, some guys were really jealous and even some girls that I had the courage to tell it straight to her face. No beating around the bush.

And well, let's just say, it didn't work out as I got rejected. I am glad I didn't run after her. I am in fact glad she married someone else since she was a extremely high spender and we would have been totally opposite. I was more practical. I never cared for brands like the guys. I prefer substance over tag labels. It was still left off on more respectable terms only because I was the smart guy and everyone used to come to me to help with projects needing damage control 🤣.

One example, not to brag but I refused to buy a batch shirt 👕 and instead gave the money worth of goods to a poor guy. The only of two guys

I fell in love a second time after gap of 4 years and this time again I had promised not to fall but it happened. This was more emotional than last time partly because a lot of things happened in the past that had come to cross my path simultaneously.

1. My delay in degree program due to change in degree. She was my senior in bachelor's degree and my classmate in Masters degree. Due to the changes. She was my age and even same birth month.

2. My delay in acting on my emotions.

3. My prayers that time while looking at her, "God give her a loving husband even if it's not me". That damned thing hit my in my heart. Only in a matter of months she got engaged and married to my brother's friend.

Still, may be God didn't want things to go through with it. I had the worst heart break that time. I was in total shambles and I rose back and it's been a hell for me for past 4-5 years. This has been the toughest years of my life and for what? Just for love.

Honestly when I hear someone saying she waited years for a guy to marry her or him and then they don't get to be together it saddens me and angers me. Why the fools wait around thinking they will be served love on a silver platters. Dating seems okay but still it's ridiculous if you can't make up your mind in 4-6 months of dating whether you are alright for each other or not. And the cherry on top. Sex seems to be top priority for women especially in Western world. Come on, give yourself some respect he ain't going to marry you if you are going to be stupid.

Despite this, I don't hate what I got )). God knows what is best for me.

I don't know if I realized it at the time seeing as I was like grade 7.

But this girl sat in front of me in my first class and she was sweet to me. Turns out 25 years later she had a crush on me too throughout high-school. So I missed out.

Anyways, I had dreams about this girl until I was 30. Every time I would dream of her, it was just us two hanging out.

I would always wake up so happy from those dreams.

Even when I was married I dreamed about this girl.

Sometimes I still have them but they are so faded and so disconnected from what they were, it's not even her any more. It's just a dream of some forgotten love or some shit.

The actual girl went on to have like 6 kids with 5 baby daddies so I suppose I dodged a bullet.

When I started to miss him. We didn't know each other for long. Maybe a few weeks. He goes on a family trip and would be unavailable. He let me know beforehand and I was like Yes okay and during those days I was like... I wonder what he's doing, I want to see him, I want to talk to him again.

And I am a person who rarely gets that feeling about someone. Call me cold, my social battery is just very low, but just like with best friends I was looking forward to seeing him again. It had only been a few weeks, but he barged through that wall I put up for any person I interact with pretty easily. Many try, many fail, he somehow got through and I don't want to let go of that guy.

Similar, not knowing what I had until I lost it. I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach for a week when I broke off with my girlfriend. It’s something I didn’t know or admit during the relationship. I think there is a chemical and committal component to love. Hurts like hell when both are severed.
